Ed Sheeran has reportedly written a new song that will be released by the winner of this year’s ‘X Factor’ as a Christmas single.

The track is reportedly an acoustic ballad, in Sheeran’s trademark style, which Simon Cowell is hoping will put the 'X Factor' back on top of the festive charts.

Last year’s winner’s single, Louisa Johnson’s cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ only peaked at number nine. However before Johnson, every other winner had reached the top spot.

A source told The Sun: “Everything Ed does turns to gold. To have him write the winner’s song is huge and amazing news for this year’s winner.”

“All the remaining contestants have heard the track and it works for the majority,” the source continued.

“They can’t believe potentially their first ever single will be written by Ed.

“The only chance his song won’t get used is if 5Am or Honey G pull off a shock win. Then bosses might need to consider another one of their options.”
