The singer is obsessed with the country.
UK fans of Ed Sheeran may potentially have to wave goodbye to their idol one day, as he has expressed a deep love of New Zealand with the capital city being his favourite place in the world. He's even jokingly requested citizenship, with the country's Prime Minister only too happy to invite him - but only if he answers some important questions about the nation.

As nostalgic as the 26-year-old singer-songwriter seemed to be about his hometown of Framlingham, Suffolk on his single 'Castle on the Hill', it seems the place he really wants to live is Wellington, New Zealand. He recently revealed that it's his all-time favourite city, and he even requested citizenship this year but didn't hear back.
'My favourite city in the world, to be in, is Wellington. I think Wellington is just so wonderfully beautiful', he told NewsHub. 'I've actually considered it [moving to Wellington]. If I didn't have any ties to England I'd be in Wellington in a flash.'
He even made another request for citizenship in a recent video message to New Zealand fans ahead of his tour of the country in March next year. 'Hey New Zealand I can't wait to see you very soon', he said. 'I'm not yet a citizen of New Zealand but I'm working on it - hook me up prime minister, please.'
Amazingly, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern replied to him in a short video of her own, shot at her own office in parliament. It was a mock serious response where she asked some important citizenship questions, before seemingly offering to consider any future requests for residency within the country.
'I understand you've put through a very informal request for citizenship. Before we're able to think about that a little bit more I've got some very important questions for you', she said. 'The first, do you like pineapple lumps? Do you even know what they are? Two, are you willing to wear jandals in semi-inappropriate situations, and also, do you know what jandals are? Third, most important question of all. Are you willing to make New Zealand your home? Let me know.'
In case you were wondering, pineapple lumps are a chewy, chocolate-covered confectionery popular amongst Kiwis and jandals are more commonly known - in the US and UK, at least - as flip-flops.
Ed Sheeran will play his first New Zealand show from his Divide Tour on March 24th 2018 at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland.
