The actress is moving back to Massachusetts after separating from Fox.
Eliza Dushku and Rick Fox have split up after five years of dating, it has been confirmed. The Buffy actress and the former NBA player reportedly made the decision to end their relationship due to a disparity between their ambitions and where they want to live.
Dushku explained to the Boston Globe that her heart has always been in Massachusetts, specifically the Watertown area where she grew up, whilst Fox is more attracted to the Los Angeles lifestyle. "Rick's an LA guy and I'm a Boston girl," she said.
Since the split, the 33-year-old actress said that she bought a condo not far from the home where she grew up, and is excited to move back to the town if only for the fact that her new place has a basement.
"Nobody in LA has a basement," she said. "They all have the obligatory storage spaces in the Valley."
She's moving away from California and therefore the main hub for actors, but the Bring It On star says she's not abandoning the movie and TV business. Her decision for a change comes after 22 years living in LA, which made her miss Boston, as well as a desire to go back to school.
"I'd rather be a little physically cold here than emotionally cold in LA," she said. "I missed my town and I missed my family." Eliza said she's not yet sure where she'll go to school or what she'll study.
The first warning signs that Eliza was seeking change came earlier this year when she spoke about the difference between LA and Boston in a recent issue of The Improper Bostonian. "After living in Los Angeles for 15 years, I definitely grew out of being an L.A. hater, but I think there's a level of truthfulness and individuality here that is refreshing in a business where everyone conforms to certain standards," she told the magazine.
"I just sort of come alive when I'm home."
In Boston, Dushku will be sure to be spending more time with her mother, Judith, a former professor at Suffolk University and her brother Aaron, who is city councillor in Watertown.
