The star's first feature as a director, Pitch Perfect 2, proved to be a huge hit, earning $285.2 million (£178.3 million) to date worldwide following its release earlier this year (15), making it the highest-grossing musical-comedy in global box office history. Now Banks will be back for another run, with leading stars Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow all set to reprise their roles, according to Variety.com.

Banks co-starred in and produced the original film, which became a surprise cult hit in 2012.

The star will reteam with franchise screenwriter Kay Cannon for the next Pitch Perfect instalment, while she will also serve as a producer, alongside her husband Max Handelman.

"We did something really rare," Banks previously said of Pitch Perfect 2. "We made a movie that was directed by a woman, written by a woman, produced by a woman and stars a poster full of women."

The blonde beauty has been in high demand since her breakout directing gig - she also recently signed on to take charge of an upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot and a movie adaptation of Victoria Aveyard's young adult novel Red Queen.
