Elizabeth Banks was ''horrified'' upon realising she was going to be responsible for a baby just days before she became a mother.

The 38-year-old actress broke down in tears shortly before she and her sports writer and producer husband Max Handelman became parents to 14-month-old baby Felix via a gestational surrogate last year, and the blonde beauty recalls the moment she suddenly faced up to the fact she was going to be accountable for a child for the rest of her life.

Elizabeth said: ''The Thursday before my son was born, I was just driving to coffee with my husband and I literally burst into tears.

''I was horrified that this was the last Thursday of my life before I was going to be responsible for another human being for the rest of my life!''

Elizabeth plays a mother-to-be in forthcoming romantic-comedy movie 'What To Expect When You're Expecting' - which stars Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz and Chris Rock - and she enjoyed wearing prosthetic breasts to portray a pregnant woman in the film, despite thinking part of her fake boobs looked like ''large salami slices''.

She added to Celebuzz: ''Mine had giant areolas like horrifyingly large salami slices. I thought, 'That's the size of my face!'''
