A selection of artworks owned by Dame Elizabeth Taylor have sold at auction for $21.9 million (£13.7 million).
Vincent Van Gogh's landscape Vue de l'asile de la Chapelle de Remy, which hung in the living room of the late star's home in California, was the biggest draw of the Christie's sale in London on Tuesday (07Feb12) - it netted $16 million (£10 million).
A youthful self-portrait by Edgar Degas and a large-scale landscape by Claude Pissarro sold for $1.1 million (£713,250) and $4.7 million (£2,953,250) respectively.
Marc Porter, chairman of Christie's Americas, says, "As the crown jewel of her art collection, we are delighted with the price achieved for Van Gogh's Vue de l'asile, a profoundly beautiful work from one of the creative high points of the artist's career."
