The 56-year-old chat show host addressed the "fantastic" news that the Supreme Court has finally decided to hear cases on same-sex marriage.
After news broke that the Supreme Court in the U.S. will finally address the issue of same-sex marriages, focusing on cases from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee, Ellen DeGeneres quickly expressed how "fantastic" this development is.
Ellen and her partner Portia de Rossi have been married since August 2008
While speaking with reporters at NBCUniversal's Television Critics Association press tour to promote her new NBC comedy series 'One Big Happy,' the 56-year-old comedienne was asked for her opinion on the matter.
"Yea!" DeGeneres said. "It's about time. The thing that changed the civil rights movement was when white people got involved and started marching, because until then, it was just nothing but violence and disaster, and it continued to be for a while."
"We need everyone on our side," she added. "We're kind of trying to do this march, and we need people that believe in equality and believe in fairness and love. If we have people that will join us and give us that, which is only fair to have the same rights as everybody else, then it's a wonderful world."

Ellen, who has been married to her partner Portia de Rossi since August 2008, was forced to address her sexuality on her chat show earlier this week after a conservative Christian pastor wrote an article about her.
"I don't usually read anything about myself," DeGeneres began in her monologue. "But I heard there was an article written about me and I would like to address it right now. It's a pastor who wrote an article for the Christian Post where he accuses Hollywood of having a gay agenda and said that 'Ellen Degeneres celebrates her lesbianism and 'marriage' in between appearances of guests like Taylor Swift to attract young girls.'"

"The only way I'm trying to influence people is to be more kind and compassionate with one another," she said. "That is the message that I'm sending out. I don't have an agenda. I'm not here to brainwash anyone. I want you to live your lives being exactly who you are. Be true to yourself. The most important thing is to be true to yourself."
