Solo singer Ellie Goulding has snatched the week's top track yet again from the claws of rivals with lead single 'Burn' from her upcoming album, Halcyon Days. The track was Goulding's first ever number one hit after it was announced that it was the bestselling track a fortnight ago and now has dominated the UK charts for two straight weeks, selling over 200,000 copies.

26 year-old Ellie is currently in the US where she has performed onstage with Taylor Swift during the fourth and final evening country pop singer's 'Red' shows in L.A. and attended the MTV VMA awards ceremony in Brooklyn where she was jointly up for the best 'Song of the Summer' moon man with Calvin Harris for their track 'I Need Your Love.'

At the VMAs, Goulding was spotted getting a bit handsy with Ed Sheeran, who is currently supporting Taylor Swift on tour. The pair held hands and not-so-discretely stroked each other's legs whilst her new rumoured beau, One Direction's Niall Horan, sat rows away. The internet was whipped into a confused frenzy of dating rumours that Ellie was quick to put out, tweeting her frustration: "I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item. In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef*ck."

The evening saw Justin Timberlake both perform and take home four moon men; one of which was for the coveted 'Video of the Year.' Meanwhile, Ellie and Calvin lost out to One Direction's 'Best Song Ever' but the 'Starry Eyed' star still has plenty of reason to celebrate after her UK chart triumph.
