At the beginning of her set, Goulding seemed to be having trouble with coming in on time as she began ‘Love Me Like You Do’. According to the Daily Mail, Goulding failed to come in on time with the music and then stood awkwardly in front of the audience before the backing track stopped and re-started.

Viewers soon took to social media to accuse the singer of lip-synching, something which she later vehemently denied. 'Love it when people think I lip sync, what a rad compliment :) Now where does one find a good veggie restaurant in Melbs?’ Goulding tweeted.

The 28 year old also replied to one tweeter who accused her of not singing live by simply writing ‘Bog off’. Goulding was also supported by Michael Gudinski, producer of the Toyota AFL Grand Final Entertainment, who came to her defence in a statement.

'Ellie performed live vocals to a backing track,’ the statement read. 'This is a very common practice for performances in situations such as the Grand Final. Unfortunately a technical issue at the start of Ellie’s performance caused a brief hiccup but Ellie went on to prove just how much of a superstar she is, belting out two of her massive hits.’
