Ellie Goulding has lashed out at a news publication after their article suggested that she used IV drips instead of eating while touring on a busy schedule. She has branded the misquotation as 'dangerous' and 'irresponsible' for ignoring the context of her original statement.

The singer has always been very aware of the image she's putting out in the media, extremely aware that she has a multitude of young and impressionable female fans. Therefore it's no surprise that she has reacted with utter disgust at the Metro's interpretation of her interview with Red magazine.

The Metro's article, headlined 'Ellie: I eat at the IV', suggested that Goulding regularly undergoes IV vitamin drips 'to cope with her tough schedule', adding a quote from her saying she often doesn't have time to eat in the day.

'This has been brought to my attention today. An intentionally misleading "quote", extremely irresponsible of them', Goulding said of the article on Twitter. 'Misleading people into thinking I replace meals with an IV drip is the most absurd thing I've dealt with thus far. Actually I detest IV drips and only ever had one once years ago at the point of extreme exhaustion, and couldn't even complete it.'

After clarifying the comment, she admitted that the misquote 'concerned' her. [It's] very sad because I am fit, healthy and strong and work hard. I can usually laugh off misquotes and ignore but this is a genuinely dangerous and irresponsible one', she added.

The original story in Red actually featured the following quote from Goulding: 'I had to pay for everyone to have IV vitamin drips. Can you believe it? Backstage at Alan Carr and we're all sat there on drips. The last month has been really testing, on everything. On my sanity, really. The music industry isn't like other industries - there are no rules about working hours. A working day will start with a 4am flight and finish at 3am the next day. Sometimes I don't have time to eat. I go, 'are we gonna get lunch?' And everyone around me is like... 'No'.'

The author of the original article was equally furious with the miscitation, pointing out that the interview does also feature the singer talking about her occasionally unhealthy eating habits, with her meals of that week including marshmallows, Nando's, crisps and selection boxes.

Further fury came after the Metro printed another piece featuring comments about the article from other readers, who disagreed with Goulding's so-called IV drip fixation. 'Instead of issuing an apology, Metro has reinforced its false story on me by printing this', she said, with a photo of the newspaper story.

The Metro are yet to issue any sort of apology.
