Elon Musk has broken up with Amber Heard, and it seems he's not likely to get over it anytime soon. He got extremely candid in a heartbreaking interview recently about losing his girlfriend, and confessed that he's desperate to find a 'soulmate' and settle down.

The 46-year-old Tesla and SpaceX CEO struggled through an interview with Rolling Stone about the future plans for his companies, distracted by his recent heartbreak. He'd been dating actress Amber Heard for a year, and he's found that he's utterly miserable without her.

'I just broke up with my girlfriend', he told the publication. 'I was really in love, and it hurt bad. Well, she broke up with me more than I broke up with her, I think.'

He elaborated that the ordeal has made the launch of his new Tesla electric car extremely difficult because he had to put a brave face on during the event, even though he probably looked like the least happy person in the room.

'I've been in severe emotional pain for the last few weeks', he continued. 'Severe. It took every ounce of will to be able to do the Model 3 event and not look like the most depressed guy around. For most of that day, I was morbid. And then I had to psych myself up: drink a couple of Red Bulls, hang out with positive people and then, like, tell myself: 'I have all these people depending on me. All right, do it!''

The inventor was previously married to author Justine Wilson from 2000 to 2008, and together they had six children; a son, who died at ten weeks, a set of twins and a set of triplets. He then married actress Talulah Riley in 2010, splitting in 2012 before remarrying in 2013 and getting divorced again in 2016.

'It's so hard for me to even meet people', Elon continued. 'I'm looking for a long-term relationship. I'm not looking for a one-night stand. I'm looking for a serious companion or soulmate, that kind of thing. If I'm not in love, if I'm not with a long-term companion, I cannot be happy.'

He refutes the idea that he might be codependent when it comes to relationships, and reveals that all he's ever wanted since he was a child is some form of companionship.

'I will never be happy without having someone. Going to sleep alone kills me', he says. 'When I was a child, there's one thing I said. 'I never want to be alone.' That's what I would say. I don't want to be alone.'
