Selena Gomez was due to embark on a tour of the Russian Federation to perform two concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow, as well as a show in Minsk, Belarus and Ukraine's Kiev. Before the big man himself had emerged onstage his 'hype' crew had already asked the crowd which coast their loyalties lay with and if anyone had smoked weed that day. Lion then sauntered on stage looking as laid back as ever and begins to perform 'Here Comes The King' whilst suspiciously subdued.

The gala concert, his first since undergoing surgery for appendicitis earlier this year, saw Elton presented the award by his friend Rod Stewart in front of a celebrity-filled audience that also included Liz Hurley, Lulu, former-President Bill Clinton, Ringo Starr, Gary Barlow and many more. The singing icon received a standing ovation as he took to the stage to collect his award, having been introduced by Stewart, who cheekily referred to the man of the hour as "the second-best rock singer ever."

Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry are among the names confirmed for the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in September. The two-day festival, set to be held on September 20 and 21, will also feature performances from Elton John, Keith Urban and a special pairing of Queen (with Brian May) and the former American Idol star Adam Lambert.

The main festival line-up was announced on Monday morning (July 15, 2013) in a press conference hosted by Ryan Seacrest. A final schedule will be announced closer to the festival, though Timberlake, Perry, Elton and Bruno Mars are likely to be the marquee names. The likes of Muse, Tiesto, Chris Brown, Fun, Phoenix, Maroon 5, Tim Mcgraw, Ke&ha, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Benny Benassi are other high profile names to have been confirmed.

Last year's festivals played host to No Doubt, Pink, Usher and Swedish House Mafia though it will be remembered for Billie Joe Armstrong's meltdown during Green Day's set. After smashing the band's instruments in protest of his set being cut short, Armstrong left the stage and was admitted to rehab the next day, cancelling his band's tour dates and promotional appearances.

Elton John Thanks His Lucky Stars – "I'm Lucky To Be Alive"

Elton John

Elton John’s recent health issues meant more than just cancelled tour dates, they threatened to end the gay icon’s life, according to the Candle in The Wind singer himself. “I'm lucky to be alive," he said, according to The NME. "I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive."

Elton JohnGet well soon Elton!

The culprit was a nasty case of appendicitis, which, despite its common nature, can be a killer. It forced him out of London's Hyde Park on July 12 as well as the Collisioni festival in Italy last night (July 9) and a show in Germany tomorrow (July 11). Dates including festivals in Spain, France and Monaco have also been cancelled because of the illness. “Sir Elton is currently undergoing a course of intensive antibiotics and is expected to undergo surgery in the UK in the coming weeks, once doctors can be confident they have sufficiently reduced toxins within the inflamed appendicitis site,” said a statement on his website.

Elton John Forced To Postpone Tour Dates Due To Appendicitis

Elton John

A case of appendicitis has lead to Elton John postponing some of his tour dates, it was revealed on his website. The busy singer, who “regularly performs in excess of 120 concerts per year”, was due to play the Collisioni festival in Italy on Tuesday, and a headline gig at London's Hyde Park on Friday.

According to AEG Live, the Hyde Park show will still go ahead with Elvis Costello and former Kinks frontman Ray Davies on the bill, but full refunds will be offered.

Albums of the week... Following 2011's massively successful collaborative album with Jay-Z 'Watch The Throne', Kanye West makes a return with a new solo effort entitled 'Yeezus'. He proves yet again that he is one serious hip-hop artist as he introduces a brand new edge to his sound that has not failed to engage his devoted fans with a number one spot on six charts including the US, the UK and Canada. As Joe Wilde summarises, 'This may be his best album to date and is probably his most discussed one too, but one thing it definitely is, is a Kanye West album and no-one can do anything quite like what he can do.' Read the Yeezus album review here

Another album that's gaining some serious attention is everyone's favourite Icelandic rock band Sigur Ros, whose seventh album 'Kveikur' has not left any disappointment in the wake of its highly anticipated release. Their sound remains familiarly ambient as on 2012 offering 'Valtari', though has definitely become noisier and a little darker. Our reviewer Jim Pusey had only good things to say, revealing, 'Despite all the darkness to be found here, Sigur Ros have managed to create one of their most compelling albums to date by embracing that darkness and quite literally shining a light on it.' Read the review of Kveikur here

A Week In Movies: Cavill Replaces Cruise, Juno Temple Is Magic, Tom Hardy As Sir Elton?

Henry Cavill

Some were shocked and others relieved when news broke this week that Tom Cruise has dropped out of starring in Guy Ritchie's new Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie. Like Mission: Impossible, it's based on a 1960s TV series about a secret espionage agency. Now Henry Cavill (soon to be seen as the Man of Steel) has emerged as the front-runner to replace Cruise as spy leader Napoleon Solo.

Meanwhile, Juno Temple arrived to talk about her role as a mentally disturbed young woman in the upcoming film Magic Magic. She stars opposite Michael Cera, and mentions a wrenching confrontation as her favourite scene in the film, which was screened as part of the Director's Fortnight at Cannes.

Surprise, Surprise: Sir Paul McCartney Tops Rich List With £680 Million Fortune

Sir Paul McCartney Adele U2 One Direction Elton John Andrew Lloyd Webber

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has topped the Sunday Times list of the richest musicians with a £680 million fortune. The singer-songwriter has topped the list since 1989, when he was worth an estimated £80 million. In second place was composer and West End king Andrew Lloyd Webber, with £620 million, and the combined financial might of Irish rock band U2 finished third with £520 million. The full list will be published by the newspaper on Sunday 21, April.

Elsewhere on the list, former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham shares an estimated fortune of £200 million with superstar husband David, while Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger was tied on the same amount. Elton John featured prominently, while dancer Michael Flatley surprised many by finishing seventh with a £191 million fortune. Keith Richards, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, and Sting rounded out the Top 10 with amounts over £180 million.

In the young music millions list, Adele unsurprisingly topped the list with an estimated £30 million fortune. It was widely reported that the Oscar-winner had made £10 million last year despite taking time off to recover from a throat operation and giving birth to her first child. Her award-winning album 21 has seen her value increase by 50%. Elsewhere, Cheryl Cole's estimated worth was increased to £14 million, while each of the five members of boy-band One Direction are said to be worth £5 million each - a figure likely to have increased exponentially by next year.

Ed Sheeran: I Don't Think Justin Bieber Collaboration Would Work

Ed Sheeran Justin Bieber Elton John

Fans of both Justin Bieber AND Ed Sheeran, forget it! It's never gonna happen. A collaboration between both of your favourite stars is officially off the cards, according to Sheeran himself. The Suffolk born singer-songwriter - who will duet with Elton John at the Grammys on Sunday - has previously worked with One Direction and Taylor Swift, though claims a collaborative effort with Bieber just wouldn't work.

"I don't think a collaboration would work with Justin. I think collaborations should be done with people that can actually click. Two male singers makes it very difficult for it to work," he told The Sun. Well, that's that then. Sheeran addressed rumors that he and Justin were working together by explaining he was actually in the studio with singer Tori Kelly, who has the same manager as Justin Bieber, Scooter Braun. He said: "I met Bieber's manager in New York and he said he's got this artist I want you to write with. Next time I was in LA, I was doing Jimmy Kimmel and he brought this girl to Kimmel and I met her straight afterwards. I then went to the studio and did a song."

Scooter has his fingers in plenty of pies and also represents South Korean sensation Psy. Can you imagine a collaboration between Sheeran and the Gangnam Style star? Think of the royalties Ed, think of the royalties.

Bestival Line-up An Eclectic Mix; Elton John And Snoop Dogg To Headline

Elton John Snoop Dogg Mia Flaming Lips

Bestival is slowly but surely ranking up alongside Glastonbury in the battle of the festivals. We're not sure why, but Great Britain seems to be the place to be for music festivals; despite the high chance of rain, millions flock to the fields every year.

It might have something to do with the stellar acts pulled in by the festival spirit year after year. Bestival - this year - is set to be headlined by rock legend Elton John, Hip Hop giant Snoop Dogg (sorry Snoop, we can't get on board with this Lion thing) while Mia, the Flaming Lips and the Roots add to an already stunning roster. John was a VIP guest at the first-ever Isle of Wight festival back in the 60s, "I went with a group of friends specifically to see Bob Dylan," John said. "He was fantastic. Sitting in that field I could never have imagined that just a year later Melody Maker would run the front page headline 'Dylan digs Elton!', after he came to one of my first shows in America."

But will a 65-year-old Elton don a fancy dress costume? Bestival is famous for them, so he'll probably have to. "As the person who played a concert at New York's Central Park in 1980 dressed in full Donald Duck costume including webbed feet, I think I know quite a bit about the power and fun of fancy dress! I can't wait to see the audience at Bestival: they must all look amazing from the stage." (via The Guardian).

Justin Timberlake's To Perform At The Grammys, First Time In Four Years

Justin Timberlake Grammy Awards Elton John Rihanna Taylor Swift

Justin Timberlake is back with a new single 'Suit & Tie' and an album on the way named 20/20 Experience, as well as appearing at a pre-Superbowl show this weekend the Grammy organisers have also announced that JT will be performing at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10th, reports MTV.

The awards are always a show not to miss and with his first live television performance in years, and his first performance at the Grammys for 4 years, this one is bound not to disappoint either. Everyone is hoping that the ex-N*Sync man will perform some teaser tracks from the upcoming album. Also taking to the stage during the evening will be nominees Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Mumford & Sons and FUN.

Timberlake isn't actually nominated for anything this time around but he's already won 6 in his career so far. Other nominees for the year include The Black Keys, Lumineers, Rihanna, Jack White, Frank Ocean, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. There'll also be a very special duet performance from Elton John and Ed Sheeran. With that kind of list JT is just the icing on the cake. The Grammy Awards takes place on February 10th, and JT's new album is out on March 19th.

Ben Affleck won Best Director at the Golden Globes on Sunday for Argo

In Your Face, Academy! Well, one of the strangest Oscar snubs in recent memory appears to have made the Academy look very silly indeed. Ben Affleck won Best Director at the Golden Globes on Sunday for Argo, which also won Best Drama. The actor-turned-filmmaker will not feature in the same category at the Oscars, though we guess won't be TOO bothered now.

The Brave One: It was pretty eventful Golden Globes by all accounts, with actress Jodie Foster finally coming out over her sexuality after years of ambiguity. The Silence of The Lambs star and two-times Oscar winner delivered a typically humorous and emotional speech, leaving much of the gathered audience in tears.

Dr Dre Top List Of Highest Paid Musicians

Dr Dre Roger Waters Elton John Jon Bon Jovi Britney Spears Sir Paul McCartney Taylor Swift Justin Bieber Toby Keith

Dr Dre has become the highest earning musician of the year according to Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid musicians of 2012.

The rapper, who has been working on the follow-up to 1999's 2001 for an unprecedented time, has scooped up a whopping $110 million in pretax earnings over the year, and no prizes for guessing that his Beats by Dre headphones are at the root of his earning power. The majority of his massive earnings this year come down to the sale of 51% of his Beats company to mobile phone maker HTC, who bought a controlling stake in the business for $300 million earlier this year, around $100 million of which went to Dre.

Whilst Dre taking the top spot may have come as a surprise to some, the rest of the list is even more surprising with a number of musical icons proving that they still have massive earning power despite not maintaining the popularity they once had. Number two in the chart, Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, is no exception to this, as he scooped in a massive $80 million this year alone, largely due to his ongoing work with The Wall Live Tour.

Andy Williams Songs Were Legendary, But His Television Career Deserves Respect

Andy Williams Elvis Presley Perry Como Elton John The Osmonds Smokey Robinson Beach Boys

Andy Williams songs will be played on record players across the globe today, after the effortlessly smooth crooner – best known for his track ‘Moon River’ – died on Wednesday, aged 84.

Williams soothing voice, boyish looks and easy-going demeanour ensured he outlasted many of the rock-stars of the 60’s and 70’s, as well as contemporaries such as Frank Sinatra and Perry Como. For a man who became a major star in the same year as Elvis Presley, Williams enjoyed an astonishing career and remained on the charts well into the 1970s, while continuing to perform into the 1980s at the Moon River Theater that he built in Branson. However, Williams’ television career was equally as commendable and his eponymous show lasted from 1962 until 1971, winning three Emmys along the way. It was on that show that Williams introduced the world to The Osmonds (their young sibling, a certain Donny, made his debut on the show when just 6-years-old). He also booked rock and soul acts, including The Beach Boys, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and Elton John. His attitude to fame was perhaps summed up when he mused “I guess I've never really been aggressive, although almost everybody else in show business fights and gouges and knees to get where they want to be…My trouble is, I'm not constructed temperamentally along those lines,” according to the Chicago Tribune.

Williams never entertained the possibility of retirement and told the Associated Press in 2001, “I'll keep going until I get to the point where I can't get out on stage.” He is survived by his wife Debbie and three children.

Elton John, The Union (feat Leon Russell) Album Review

Elton John needs no introduction. In his four-decade career John has sold more than 250 million records, had more than 50 Top 40 hits, won five Grammy awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award. Now releasing his thirtieth (yes thirtieth!) album, talking about his collaboration with legend Leon Russell, Elton states 'I don't have to make pop records anymore.' True enough, Elton proves on this album why he is still around making music with such vindication.

All We Are Saying Review

Weak
Here's an intriguing and potentially electrifying documentary concept: Rosanna Arquette gets the lowdown on life in the music biz by chatting with A-list rock stars, including Sting, Steven Tyler, Gwen Stefani, Tom Petty, Yoko Ono, Stevie Nicks, Thom Yorke, Elton John, Mr. and Mrs. Sonic Youth, and a dozen others from the '60s through the '90s. This is gonna be great, right?

Sadly, producer, director, and "experiencer" Arquette did exactly one thing well: the title. All We Are Saying is appropriately a dull, bloated gab marathon. And since she didn't clear the featured artists' music for the movie, it's all talk, no song, not even a few bars from a stage performance. Imagine The Aristocrats without the joke, stretched out over 105 minutes.

Bad

Motivated solely by corporate greed, Disney has recently begun cranking out low-ambition, high-profit margin throwaway pictures as bad as any of the odious junkers (e.g. "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes") that the studio released in the 1960s and '70s.

If it's not soulless, uncalled for sequels ("Return to Never Land," "Cinderella 2"), it's hackneyed kiddie-angst comedies ("The Princess Diaries," "Max Keeble's Big Move") with no greater purpose than the mindless, robotic recycling of familiar themes to sell soundtracks and videos through relentless self-promotion on ABC TV and Radio Disney.

But this trend may have hit a new low with the release of "The Country Bears," in which writer Mark Perez and director Peter Hastings take an outdated, Chuck E. Cheese-quality Disneyland attraction called the Country Bear Jamboree and turn it into a trite, cliché-packed embarrassment of a feature film.
