Emilia Clarke Compares Sexism In Hollywood To "Dealing With Racism"

Emilia Clarke

Emilia Clarke has compared the levels of sexism in Hollywood and the wider entertainment industry as “like dealing with racism” in a new interview.

The British star, a long-time cast member of ‘Game of Thrones’ and with a part in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spin-off movie, spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about how accustomed she has become to being treated differently, in both film and television, because she’s a woman.

“I feel so naive for saying it, but it's like dealing with racism,” she explained. “You're aware of it, but one day, you go, 'Oh, my God, it's everywhere!’”

'Game Of Thones' Cast Singing 'I Will Survive' Is The Most Ironic Thing Ever

Game Of Thrones Lena Headey Emilia Clarke Kit Harington

'Game Of Thrones' fans have gotten to experience a wonderful taste of irony with a viral video featuring the cast 'singing' along to Gloria Gaynor's 1978 hit 'I Will Survive'. It must've have taken some 'GoT' lover a long time to put together but it's so worth it.

So far the gritty fantasy show in its 6 seasons has killed off more than 100 characters, so it seems fabulously appropriate to have the cast's lines dubbed to the tune of the number one diva classic. The video merges together various clips and soundbites from the show so that it appears they are speaking the lyrics to 'I Will Survive'.

'Game Of Thrones' season 6 has been quite the rollercoaster, leaving fans a little disturbed, frequently relieved and, finally, purely stunned. In fact, finale episode 'The Winds of Winter', which aired on Sunday (June 26th 2016), has already been lauded as one of the greatest television episodes of all time and for a very good reason.

Kit Harington Missing Among 'Game Of Thrones' Season 6 Premiere Arrivals

Game Of Thrones Emilia Clarke Kit Harington Lena Headey

The 'Game Of Thrones' season 6 premiere took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood last night (April 10th 2016) and, as expected, arrivals were bombarded with questions about whether or not Jon Snow was really dead. Kit Harington wasn't there to reitereate his own denial of Snow's continued existence, but he would have been proud of everyone for their insistence.

Emilia ClarkeEmilia Clarke plays Daenerys Targaryen

The cast of probably the most eagerly anticipated season premiere of this Golden Globe-winning fantasy series yet took to the grey carpet to ring in the arrival of the new episodes, the first of which will air on HBO in two weeks. Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen was among them, as fans continue to fret over what's become of her character. From what we've seen in pictures and trailers so far, Daenerys is stranded after pet dragon Drogon refused to take her back home and has now run into a Dothraki horde. Some snippets have shown her as being held hostage, while in others she appears to be free.

Emilia Clarke Provides Comic Relief For Tear-Jerker Romance 'Me Before You'

Emilia Clarke Sam Claflin

Time for a love story with a bit of a difference. It's always tragic when fate intervenes in a relationship to complicate things in unimaginable ways, but for Louisa Clark and William Traynor in 'Me Before You', their love has its complications from the very beginning.

A new trailer featuring Ed Sheeran's 'Photograph' for this tear-jerker will likely break your heart into a million pieces. 'Me Before You' follows a vivacious though slightly odd woman in her 20s as she embarks on a new career as the personal carer to a young man confined to a wheelchair after an accident left him almost completely paralysed. It's not something she's ever experienced before, and what follows is a relationship she never dreamed of.

If James Bond Were A Woman She'd Be Any Of These Ladies

James Bond Emily Blunt Gemma Arterton Kate Beckinsale Rosamund Pike Emilia Clarke Imogen Poots

Since Daniel Craig firmly stated that he didn't want to do another James Bond film after 'Spectre', suggestions have been flying all over the place about who it could be next. Will Idris Elba become the first black 007? Or will it embrace the talents of Tom Hardy or Tom Hiddleston? But what if was a woman?

Ok, so feminism aside, it's a firmly held idea that Bond should continue to be a male. For a start, you'd have to change the name - how many ladies do you know called James? (Apart from Blake Lively's daughter, of course). But if you erase the tradition of him being a man, you might as well erase all the other Bond conventions; the gadgets, the fast cars, the womanising etc. But, turning pop culture upside for a moment, if James Bond WERE a woman - who would she be?

'Game Of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke Criticises "Gratuitous" Sex Scenes On TV

Emilia Clarke

She may have made her name by portraying Daenerys Targaryen, a role which has required her to appear naked several times on screen, but Emilia Clarke has spoken out against the amount of “gratuitous” nudity on TV, saying that she “can’t stand” sex scenes.

Two years ago, the 28 year old actress was reported to have told ‘Game of Thrones’ producers that she no longer wanted to appear in such scenes, even though a significant part of the HBO show’s reputation is built upon explicit scenes – sexual, violent or otherwise.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Clarke said: “Most sex scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they’re usually just to attract an audience. I’m British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway — I can’t stand it.”

Terminator Genisys Review

Weak

This declining franchise really needed a jolt to the head, but the producers disappointingly opt to play it safe with an unambitious script and child-friendly action. After the OK part 3 (2003's Rise of the Machines) and a weak part 4 (2009's Salvation), this film is unlikely to win new fans or keep the old ones hoping for more. Even though it's made to a high technical standard, the movie feels derivative and safe, avoiding any properly dangerous tension for a series of badly contrived action set-pieces.

It opens in 2029, as plucky rebel John Connor (Jason Clarke) is fighting the world-dominating Skynet machines with the help of his right-hand man Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney). When Skynet sends a Terminator (the young Arnold Schwarzenegger) back to 1984 Los Angeles to kill John's mother Sarah (Emilia Clarke), Kyle follows to rescue her. But he arrives to find the timeline already altered. Sarah had been attacked years earlier, rescued at age 9 and raised by an ageing Terminator she calls Pop (the present-day Arnie). Since everything has changed, Sarah and Kyle decide to jump forward to 2017 San Francisco so they can stop Skynet from taking over the planet with its Genisys operating system. But when they arrive, they realise that there's been even more jiggery-pokery in the timeline.

The way the film wraps in and around the 1984 original is clever, with added intrigue in the fact that Kyle and Sarah haven't yet fallen for each other and conceived John. So when he turns up in San Francisco, there are all sorts of mind-bending possibilities. Alas, the screenwriters can't be bothered to play with them. Instead they structure the film as a series of rambling expository conversations leading to yet another pointless flurry of explosive carnage. Honestly, if Terminators are literally indestructible, why bother trying to defeat them with guns? And yet everyone keeps shooting at them, just making them mad.

Emilia Clarke Gives Her Fan Theory On The Fate On Jon Snow

Spoiler alert! ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke has said she’s going to be in so much trouble  after she hinted that it might not be the end for Jon Snow after all. During an interview with MTV to promote her new movie Terminator: Genisys, the actress gave her own fan theory on the fate of Snow, saying she believes there’s a 50/50 chance he could come back.

Emilia ClarkeEmilia Clarke has given her thoughts on Jon Snow’s fate.

Speaking about life after season five’s shocking finale, Clarke said she has no idea what’s going to happen and if Jon Snow is actually gone for good. “If I have to bet, I’d say it’s a 50/50 chance,” Clarke said. ”I mean, there's some helpful people there who could bring him on back to life. But if [his death] means that I'm that much closer to getting to the Throne, then hey, okay.”

The Top Five Moments From 'Game Of Thrones' Season Five [Spoilers]

Kit Harington Game Of Thrones Lena Headey Jonathan Pryce Emilia Clarke Iain Glen Peter Dinklage

With the stunning and shocking season finale for 'Game Of Thrones' Season Five having taking audiences by storm, it's time to take a look back over the season and discuss what we thought were the best moments from one of the best rated seasons of one most critically acclaimed shows of all time. While there were plenty of twists and turns this season (in addition to boat rides), these are our top five:

Kit Harrington's Jon Snow seems to have bitten the dustKit Harington's Jon Snow seems to have bitten the dust

Cersei's Arrest: Lena Headey has put in a great performance from the start, making the incestuous, alcoholic and power-hungry Cersei Lannister both a compelling and hated character since the show's first episode. That said, seeing her chickens coming home to roost when Jonathan Pryce's High Sparrow took the power she had given him, and threw her in prison for her various crimes.

HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' has been getting a lot of criticism this year for it's massively dramatic departures from the book series 'A Song of Ice and Fire', upon which the show is based. While series creator George R. R. Martin stated on his official blog "there has seldom been any TV series as faithful to its source material" and reiterated how the show and the books are entirely separate stories, albeit with the same intended ending.

That still doesn't excuse the sudden, unexpected (and rather brutal execution) of a young girl, in Sunday night's infamous Episode Nine 'The Dance of Dragons'. Written by show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the episode saw Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) hounded by Ramsey Bolton's (Iwan Rheon) guerrilla tactics, and offering his daughter Shireen (Kerry Ingram) to the priestess Melisandre (Carice Van Houten) as a sacrifice. Said sacrifice involved burning her alive to appease the Red God, with the hopes of turning their luck and winning him the Iron Throne once and for all.

The six-minute sketch contained a lot of the current (surviving) cast of the show, like Peter Dinklage, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Kit Harington, as well as actors like John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy/Reek), Iwan Rheon (Ramsey Bolton) and Charlotte Hope (Myranda). There was also an appearance from some of the long-past actors like Mark Addy (King Robert Baratheon in Season One), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) and Rose Leslie (Ygritte), who received a serenade from Kit Harington. Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell) also made a brief appearance to discuss how the whole concert was a terrible idea.

Prince Doran - We've only seen Prince Doran Martell (Alexander Siddig) in one episode so far, he's already made a strong impression on everyone. The elder brother of fan favourite Oberyn, who came to a horribly messy end in the last season, Prince Doran is trying his best to keep the peace in Dorne, and stop his people from seeking revenge against the Lannisters. It stands to reason, however, that his death would make give them a great reason to rise up and start a war.

Brienne/Podrick - Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick (Daniel Portman) have been giving us a good dose of the "two buddies traveling", following in the footsteps of Tyrion (Peter Dinklage ) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn), and Arya (Maisie Williams) and the Hound (Rory McCann). The problem is, that each of those has come to a rather disastrous ending at some point, and the death of Brienne or Podrick seems likely - especially with what they seem to be getting themselves into.
