‘Game Of Thrones’ actress Emilia Clarke has been cast in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie about the young Han Solo.

The film is due to begin shooting in January and is slated for a May 2018 release.

Last month, actresses including Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson and Naomi Scott were all reported to have tested for the female lead in the film.

Clarke’s fellow ‘Game of Thrones’ star, Jessica Henwick was also rumoured to be in the running for the part.

No details have been revealed about Clake’s character, with an announcement on the official Star Wars website simply reading: “Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.”

Clarke will join Alden Ehrenreich, who was officially cast as the young Han Solo back in July.

Last month directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller announced that ‘Atlanta’ actor Donald Glover had been cast as the young Lando Calrissian. In a statement the duo said: ““We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us.”

“These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations.”

The film will arrive in 2018, following Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which will be released in December and the as-yet-untitled sequel to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is due out next year.
