The trio are among an already impressive line-up due to appear in the Broadway musical adaptation.
Emily Blunt, Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine all look set to join up with Johnny Depp, James Cordon and Meryl Streep in the upcoming Disney flick Into The Woods. According to Variety the British actress and the two American actors are in advanced talks with Disney to take on a starring roles in the upcoming movie, which is being directed by Rob Marshall.
The film is based on the 1987 Stephen Sondheim fantasy Broadway musical of the same name, which revolves around a childless baker and his wife as they attempt to lift a family curse by going into the enchanted woods to confront the witch that first cast the spell on them.
Emily Blunt is set to star in the upcoming film
The production is awash with classic fairytale characters who bump into the baker and his wife in the woods, including Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack form Jack the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and host of other other classic characters. Blunt will be taking on the female lead role as the baker's wife, with Cordon playing the baker in his first staring role in a major Hollywood movie. Streep will be playing the Witch and Depp will play The Wolf. According to numerous reports, Christine Baranski is also believed to be in talks with Disney bosses to appear in the film in an unspecified role. Other reports also indicate that Depp may not be playing The Wolf too, but as it stands on Imdb, this is the role the actor is due to play.
So far there has been no word on when production is meant to start, but with most of the leading actors now in place a start date is imminent. James Lapine, whose book serves as the basis for the musical, is handling the screenplay. Disney have yet to confirm anything in regards to the potential new stars of the movie.
