Disney have released the first image of Emily Blunt in full costume for Mary Poppins Returns.

The actress stars as the magically nanny in forthcoming sequel Mary Poppins Returns, set 20 years after the original film which starred Julie Andrews.

In the first-look image, Blunt is seen dressed in a long navy blue overcoat with cape detailing at the back, in a nod to the costume worn by Andrews. She also sports a pink bird-adorned hat.

But Poppins of course wouldn't be complete without her bottomless carpet bag, which has been given a complete makeover. The bag carried by Blunt features a multi-coloured print, of orange, blue and green stripes.

Blunt also appears to be standing right on the edge of Cherry Tree Lane, where she first met the Banks children two decades ago. In the sequel Poppins will return to the Banks children's’ lives after they suffer a personal loss.

Along with Blunt, the film will also star Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer as Michael and Jane, the two Banks children who are now all grown up. Lin Manuel-Miranda plays Jack, described as an ‘optimistic street lamplighter’ who is friends with Poppins.

The cast also includes Meryl Streep as Topsy, Poppins’ ‘eccentric cousin’, Julie Walters as Michael Banks' housekeeper Ellen, Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins, the man who runs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady.

Mary Poppins Returns will arrive in theatres on December 25, 2018.
