The trailer for Disney's latest fairy tale, Into the Woods, has arrived.
Disney’s Christmas offering this year comes in the form of a bewitching fairy tale based on Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical, Into the Woods. Set in an alternate world of various Brothers Grimm fairy stories, this modern twist centres around the original tale of a baker and his wife who have been cursed by a witch and must enter into the woods to break the spell so they can start their much-longed for family.

Further well-known classics intertwine with the desperate baker and his wife and they interact with other storybook characters from Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel on their travels.

Directed by Rob Marshall, this is Disney’s first theatrical adaptation of a Broadway musical and features an all-star cast, including Britain’s very own James Corden and Emily Blunt as the baker and the baker’s wife. Alongside them, Meryl Streep turns on her evil allure as The Witch, Johnny Deep attacks as The Wolf, Anna Kendrick floats as Cinderella and Chris Pine charms as Cinderella’s Prince.

The project has taken many years to come to fruition from its first adaptation attempt at Columbia in the 1990s before being picked up by Disney in the 2000s.
Into the Woods musical creator, Sondheim, admitted that there have been some significant changes to the script in order to create a production suitable for a family-friendly audience. When speaking at an event hosted by the Academy for Teachers, he explained that: "Rapunzel does not get killed and the Prince does not sleep with the Baker’s wife." He also confirmed that there would be nothing ‘sexual’ between The Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood.

Despite these child-friendly amendments, it seems the film will not suffer with Meryl Streep heading up possible Best Actress Oscar nomination predictions and both Emily Blunt and Anna Kendrick proving to be serious contenders in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Into the Woods will hit cinemas on 25 December but, for a sneak preview, watch the trailer here.
