Cosmopolis Trailer

In a luxury stretched limousine on the way to get a haircut from his father's barber, the ambitious 28-year-old billionaire that is Eric Packer enters chaos and anarchy as the streets of Manhattan begin to collapse around him. His future, once apparently carved in stone, becomes uncertain as political protestors and violent rioters attack the city from the inside following a visit from the President of the United States. Eric sees his treasured empire melt before his eyes as he looks on, unable to act or give out orders; he soon begins to understand, through a series of clues dotted about New York through the confusion, that the disturbances are leading to his imminent execution.

Cosmopolis Review

Good
Artful, intelligent and wilfully obtuse, Cronenberg uses his skill to hold our interest through this oddity of a film. But it's difficult to engage with such fragmented film, especially when its big themes are hidden in overwritten dialog.

Eric (Pattinson) is a 28-year-old billionaire who wants a haircut. As he climbs into his high-tech limousine, his security chief (Durand) warns about traffic problems because the US President's in Manhattan. En route, Eric continues his routine, meeting his computer expert (Baruchel), theoretician (Morton) and financial advisor (Hampshire), who talks to him during his daily prostate exam.

He also sees his new wife (Gadon) several times, has sex with two women (Binoche and McKenzie), endures an anarchists' riot, gets a pie in the face and confronts a man (Giamatti) who wants to kill him.

As he is transported in his lavish stretched limousine across Manhattan to get a haircut, self-centred billionaire Eric Packer's day soon collapses into meltdown as a visit from the President of the United States spurs a series of chaotic riots and groups of people protesting against the country's political future. Eric watches powerlessly the demolition of everything he holds dear and him and his associates begin to find clues amongst the disturbances that lead him to one chilling truth; his impending assassination. Will Eric manage to save his empire from total destruction, or will it drive him to the brink of madness?

Based on the novel of the same name by Don De Lillo, this action packed drama film is a frenzied mix of violence, politics, sex and money that will have you clutching on to the edge of your seat. Directed by David Cronenberg, the talented director of 'The Fly', 'Dead Ringers', 'A History of Violence' and 'A Dangerous Method', this fantastic motion picture has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Starring breakthrough 'Twilight' heartthrob Robert Pattinson as Eric Packer, 'Cosmopolis' is set to be released in the UK on June 15th 2012.

Directed by: David Cronenberg

Starring: Robert Pattinson, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Emily Hampshire and Patricia McKenzie

It's A Boy Girl Thing Review

OK
It's comforting to know that, deep into the 2000s, there is still someone trying to dig a final nugget of gold from the old swapping-bodies plot device. Freaky Friday will simply never die. Never!

In this installment, it's, well, a boy girl thing. The swappers are high school seniors: Dim jock Woody (Kevin Zegers) and Yale-destined brainiac Nell (Samaire Armstrong), who've lived next door to each other all their lives and, as this type of movie dictates, now hate each other. A class field trip and an Aztec idol get the switcheroo done (the mechanics of the switch are, of course, inconsequential), but with Woody's brain in Nell's body and vice versa, how will she dazzle the regents during her final Yale interview, and how will Woody impress the talent scouts at the Homecoming football game?

Snow Cake Review

Good
Turning what might have been an "illness of the week" tragedy into an affecting, entertaining entry for arthouse patrons, director Marc Evans, working from Angela Pell's screenplay, pulls it off in a small-scale way but with emotional sensitivity and a solid cast with particular appeal to the increasing numbers of people who have personal experience with autism.

Vivienne Freeman (Emily Hampshire), a young hitchhiker with more spirit than fear, enters a restaurant, scans it, and picks a man sitting alone to delight with her company. Alex Hughes (Alan Rickman), a laconic Englishman, barely tolerates the intrusion on his quiet privacy with a gabby adolescent and, after displaying what is, for him, considerable patience, rejects her suggestion to ride with him. He leaves, as alone as when he came in, and drives off.
