Despite a number of setbacks and the fact that only three of their five members are taking part, the Spice Girls are reportedly planning a massive reunion in gig in London’s Hyde Park for July 2017.

The Sun reported on Wednesday evening (July 6th) that Melanie Brown, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton are all on board with the idea to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their 1996 debut single ‘Wannabe’. The three apparently met at Horner’s home last week to discuss the idea

Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm are not said to be involved with the plans – however, they might now reconsider. Both have been reluctant to put their names to a prospective 20th anniversary reunion for the last year or so, and with plans receiving a number of setbacks recently, it looks as if any idea that now comes to fruition will have to be in order to celebrate a 21st anniversary instead.

The Spice Girls reunion is said to be off again, after final talks to get Mel C on board broke down this week. According to The Mirror, those already on board, Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton had even offered to wait a year for Mel C, but the former Sporty Spice is just not interested.

The Spice Girls reunion now looks unlikely.

A source told the newspaper: “Mel C has been telling friends it’s not happening – not for the anniversary and not next year. She’s not interested in revisiting the band, and neither is Victoria. Their decision has made it impossible for the other three to go ahead with plans to tour again.”

Adele has never made a secret of her love for the the Spice Girls and at a recent concert in Amsterdam the singer showed her admiration by free-styling part of the group’s 1997 hit ‘Spice Up Your Life’. But while Victoria Beckham was always going to sit the tour out, talks are now said to be in ‘crisis’, with Mel C refusing to perform as a foursome.

Mel B, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton, three former members of the Spice Girls, sent tongues wagging on Thursday when they held a belated reunion. In a pic posted on Mel B’s Instagram account, the three girls were pictured together in one happy, long-awaited selfie, proving that friendship really does never end.

Geri Halliwell recently tied the knot with Christian Horner.

The pic, which has so far garnered over 14,000 likes was captioned, "Love my girls!!! Friendship never ends it just gets stronger,” by Mel B. The image comes just one month after Mel B was unable to attend Geri’s wedding to Formula 1 boss Christian Horner in Woburn, Bedfordshire. Mel C and Victoria Beckham were also unable to attend the nuptials, leaving Emma Bunton as the only former Spice Girl present.

In the forthcoming documentary, Victoria reveals: "I was called Posh because I liked the nice restaurants, and the nice clothes, and that was my character. I didn't smile, even in those days. There was this very strong image. And I am very much that person, even now. I get ready to go out sometimes and I catch myself in the mirror and I'm like, 'Oh my God, I've turned into that person'."

The Spice Girls' renaissance - which began with a performance at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony - has continued with the musical, Viva Forever! Of course, no musical premiere is complete without an after party, but did four of The Spice Girls give Posh Spice the cold shoulder?

"Victoria sat on her own table away from the rest of the girls. They didn't speak the whole time she was there," a source told Metro. "She came out of the loo singing Spice Girls songs to Romeo who went in after her,' said another source, "She was giggling with her friends while waiting for him to finish," they continued. "When the DJ played some Spice Girls hits, Posh was nowhere to be seen. Geri, Emma, Mel B and Mel C all got up to dance and tried to remember the moves to Spice Up Your Life, they didn't seem to care, or notice, Victoria was missing."

Mrs Beckham was widely criticised for her role in The Spice girls. People said she couldn't sing, dance or act, but that's really an accusation you could level at most modern pop starts, let alone the rest of the band; a band, which, according to Ginger Spice, isn't done yet. Geri told Heat magazine: "This is a great excuse for us all to have a party tonight! The musical was incredible, we all got really emotional watching it. I just want to see it again now. It was brilliant, it was emotional, funny, exciting, empowering... it was girl power!," adding, "we're going to be around for a long time. You haven't seen the last of us."
