Watson left 100 copies of Maya Angelou's 'Mom & Me & Mom' around various London Underground stations for commuters to find.
Emma Watson has been spotted dashing around the London Underground system leaving books in hidden places for passengers to find.
The 26 year old actor turned gender equality campaigner, famous for her role as Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter movies, dropped off several copies of Maya Angelou’s ‘Mom & Me & Mum’, which was the November selection for her online book club Our Shared Self.
Emma Watson took part in the initiative in collaboration with Books On The Underground
She did this in collaboration with the bigger Books On The Underground movement, in which “book fairies” leave copies of their favourite novels for commuters to discover and, hopefully, read and share with others.
Watson left around 100 copies of Angelou’s 2013 book, some of them with handwritten notes. Watson, appointed a UN goodwill ambassador back in July 2014, started her book club earlier this year, while Books On The Underground began in 2012 and leaves about 150 books in London Underground Stations every week.
More: Emma Watson opened a “Pandora’s Box” of abuse after UN gender equality speech
In a statement, Books On The Underground said on Wednesday (November 2nd): “We are so excited to have such an amazing book shared by such an inspiring person as Emma Watson and look forward to seeing the reaction of people who find them tonight and tomorrow.”
Some lucky commuters have already found the books, with many taking to social media to tell about their finds.
Watson has often come in for criticism for speaking out about her feminist stance and the projects she involves herself in. During a recent interview, she said that she had no idea that making a speech at the United Nations about gender inequality would open up what she called a “Pandora’s Box” of trolling and online abuse.
“It was my scary first step as an activist: a word I never imagined that I would use to describe myself,” she admitted.
