Shakedown Festival - Waterhall, Brighton - August 15th 2015 Live Review

Back to give the people of Sussex its annual dousing of electronic music, Shakedown fans returned in their numbers for an evening of debauchery and hard beats. Juxtaposing that of more commercial contemporary electronic festivals like Creamfields, Shakedown is a one day event that offers something different to the commerce and pop glamour that electronic music has now become. With a line up that boasts 2manydjs, DJ EZ, Jaguar Skills, Sigma, Camo and Krooked and Sub Focus, it would become easy to point the finger at the obvious crowd drawers. Though not at Shakedown.

Shakedown Festival 2015 - Live Review

With two 2manydjs headlining the festival, it was surprising to see the sheer dominance every other stage had next to the internationally known disc jockeys. And maybe this is what makes Shakedown different to most commercial electronic festivals, the hardcore drum n bass faithful that make the event what it is. Using record labels like Defected in the House and Hospitality Records, the festival offers more niche, more specialised and far less commercial music for house  and drum n bass respectively.

With a host of MCs backing the turntablists, the drum n bass tent saw the cult legend Sub Focus warm up the crowd before Camo and Krooked took the headline set, whist MK and Oliver Dollar took the reins for the final few sets in the house tent. The sheer size of the Hospitality Records tent dwarfed all the other arenas, and probably had 50% of the festival's attendance inside it. At one point, an olive branch felt like it should be offered to the Belgian Brothers (2manydjs) who probably had no idea how petit and incomparable their tent and crowd size was to the rest. It was very transparent to see who the main drawers of Shakedown were.

It was a night where Girls Aloud were supposed to mark their comeback in style with a glittering opening performance at the Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball at the O2 Arena in London; yet since the girls have been away on individual endeavors the landscape of British pop music has changed somewhat and the five-piece were surprised to find themselves eclipsed by, among others, The Wanted - fresh from a jaunt supporting Justin Bieber in the USA - Calvin Harris and Example, among others.

Rita Ora Apologises For Wardrobe Malfunction, 'How Embarrassing!'

Rita Ora has apologised to her fans for an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction at the Red Bull Culture Clash event at Wembley Arena on Wednesday evening (November 8, 2012). The R.I.P singer exposed a little too much in her risque outfit and took to Twitter this morning to joke about the incident.

"Yes. It's true. I got straight off a motorbike from O2 to Wembley, I didn't have time to change.I didn't have time to change and then all of a sudden the zip got lower and lower, I rushed on stage and pop! It happened, f**k!" The chart-topping singer added, "Sorry guys (How embarrassing). Apologised! Despite that amazing show! :) LOL". Other than Ora's slight hitch, the unique event ran pretty smoothly. It saw four different soundsystems being pitched against each other, with audience decibels rating each act. The rules were dictated by DJ's Tim Westwood and Gemma Cairney - their Radio 1 pal Annie Mac boasted a strong roster that included Katy B, Ms Dynamite, Maverick Sabre and Example. However, it was Boy Better Know, with the help of Hot Chip and Lethal, who roused the evening's biggest cheers and eventually took the Red Bull crown.

21-year-old Ora became the first artist in 2012 to have three consecutive No.1 singles, with Hot Right Now, How We Do (Party) and R.I.P.

Boy Better Know arrive at the Red Bull Culture Clash in London ... but did they win?

There was an urban music clash for the ages going on down in London last night (November 7) as four troupes of some of the biggest names in UK dub-step, grime, garage and bass music appeared on four seperate stages set up within the confines of Wembley Arena, in a battle to determine who would cause the loudest reaction from the crowd and thus walk of champions of the night. Decibel meters measured the crowd's response to each stage, and each group pulled out all the stops to make sure they got the big W. So who were the teams?

Harry Styles And Friends Celebrate Nick Grimshaw’s Final Late Night Show

Harry Styles Henry Holland Annie Mac Example Nick Grimshaw Chris Moyles Cara Delevingne

Harry Styles, Pixie Geldof, Henry Holland, Annie Mac and Example gathered in London on Thursday (September 20, 2012) following Nick Grimshaw’s final Radio 1 late night show. Grimshaw is replacing Chris Moyles on the coveted breakfast show, and he was joined by friends at the Groucho Club.

Though most of the group partied until the early hours, the scrappy young Harry Styles left early in a Range Rover. To be fair to the One Direction singer, he’s had a pretty busy week attending the various shows at London Fashion Week. He took up a front row seat for the Burberry Spring/Summer 2013 catwalk collection, though hardly sounded specialist on the subject of women’s fashion when quizzed by the Press Association. “I like coats and it's cold so they always have to wear coats, so it's great,” he said, adding, “I thought the show was great. I liked the colours - they're not too much, they're quite subtle. I think their winter stuff's wicked.” So he basically likes the coats and the colours.

Styles’ model girlfriend Cara Delevingne was amongst the models showcasing Burberry’s new collection this year.
