Linda White is a Christian housewife, trapped in a loveless marriage which she can't do anything about, as per her beliefs. She desperately wants a baby with her husband Abe, in the hopes that her life might start to pick up but unfortunately, she is barren.

Resigning herself to the fact that she will never have children, it comes as a shock to Linda when Abe has a severe, life threatening stroke. Even more shocking is the fact that his dying wish is to see his illegitimate son, Raymond, who lives on the other side of the country to his father, who lives in Texas.

Linda decides to travel to Florida, where Raymond lives, to tell him about the predicament. Having lived a sheltered life, it comes as a shock to discover that not everyone is as friendly as they are in her small community. Even Raymond is very suspicious of others, even threatening Linda with a gun when she knocks on his door.

Gradually, he comes to terms with what has happened and the pair starts back to Florida. Their relationship is an odd one but it will help change Linda's life and help her to come to terms with her troubled past.
