Kelli is a soldier who spent fifteen months on a military tour in Afghanistan. She is eager to return to normal life in Ohio and to reunite with her husband and their children. She initially greets them with joy and returns to her previous job at the factory, happy to be settling back into a normal routine.
It gradually dawns on Kelli that everything has changed around her. Her friends have moved on and her husband is acting distant. Everyone around her though say otherwise and insist that it is Kelli who has changed. Kelli claims that she didn't witness anything particularly devastating but no one really believes her.
Growing increasingly distant with her old life, Kelli quits her factory job. She discovers that her husband is having an affair with one of her friends. To take her mind off this revelation, Kelli goes drinking with other friends but ends up arrested for driving under the influence. The police tell her to start attending AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meetings.
It is at those meetings that Kelli meets Bud and Julie, who seem to understand what she is going through. With the help of her new friends, Kelli begins the slow process of trying to re-establish her life.
