Robert and Joey Dunlop were two brothers from a country village in Northern Ireland who shared a deep passion for motorcycle racing. They were champions in their field of road racing; riding at a top speed of up to 200mph on ordinary country lanes where roadside objects like lamp posts and walls became unpredictable and deadly obstacles. It is one of the most dangerous sporting fields in the world and continues to be responsible for the tragic deaths of racers all around the globe. Robert and Joey were two of the unlucky ones, who both died within eight years of each other after severe crashes. Now their sons William and Michael have inherited that desire for adrenaline and become top racers, determined to carry on the family tradition even in spite of their fathers' untimely deaths.
'Road' is a hard-hitting documentary about one of the most dangerous vehicular sports in the world: motorcycle road racing. It has been directed by Michael Hewitt and Dermot Lavery in their filmmaking debuts and features Liam Neeson as the film's narrator. It is set to be released in UK cinemas on June 11th 2014, following the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT races.
