Ayrton Senna is known the world over for being the third most successful race driver of all time in terms of race wins. This documentary charts his rise to glory, as well as his rivalry between the French world champion Alain Prost and his patriotism to his native Brazil.
Born in Sao Paolo, Senna started his career at the age of 13, in karting competitions. He moved up to open-wheel racing in 1981 and won the British Formula 3 championship two years later, when he was 23. Senna made his Formula 1 debut a year later 1984 and from there won six Grand Prix over the next three seasons.
Senna was at the top of his game in 1994, with 41 wins and 65 pole positions, when he was involved in a tragic accident during the San Marino Grand Prix. During his sixth lap around the circuit, Senna's car crashed, leaving it's driver with a serious head trauma and massive blood loss. 300 million people around the world watched Senna being lifted into an ambulance and mourned as he was pronounced dead. The legacy of the three time F1 champion lives on through his nephew, Bruno Senna, who made his Formula One debut in 2010.
