As a girl, Sarah Murphy would spend her summers at a beautiful lake house with her dad. Many years later, the pair - along with Sarah's uncle Peter - returns to the house to renovate it, as the family wish to sell it. Sarah's old friend, Sophia, stops by but the former doesn't recognise her. The awkward conversation eventually comes to a close and Sarah continues into the house to begin renovations.
There is a lot of work to do on the house - for one thing, there is no electricity, so the trio are forced to work with halogen lamps. While working, Sarah hears a strange noise upstairs and goes to investigate. Her father and Peter offer to help search for the location of the mysterious noise.
While looking for the source of noise, Sarah's father sees some suspicious looking Polaroids. He tells Sarah to stay downstairs, which she reluctantly does so, watching her father and Peter head to the second floor. All is quiet, until a loud booming noise signals the start of eighty eight minutes of terror for the terrified Sarah.
Silent House is a remake of the Uruguayan film of the same name, which was released in 2010. Both the original and the remake were shot in one continuous take, making the films one of the few to employ this tactic (Alfred Hitchcock's 1948 film Rope was also shot in a continuous take). Elizabeth Olsen stars in Silent House as Sarah.
