In December 1936, the UK was left reeling after the news that King Edward VIII would abdicate the throne, after only 326 days served as the head of the country. The reason for his resignation was so he could successfully marry two times divorcee Wallis Simpson, an American socialite, who would never be accepted because of her previous failed marriages.
Six decades later, in 1998, Wally Winthrop stumbles across the story of the former king and the Pennsylvanian socialite, both of whom had recently died. To Wally, their romance reads like the most beautiful love story in the world and she becomes desperate to find out more information regarding the two.
Her research takes her to various locations linked to the famous couple and even includes several auctions of the Windsor Estate. But Wally is disheartened to find that things weren't always what they appeared to be and that the lives of Edward and Wallis weren't as perfect as Wally once thought.
