Bill, known to his friends as Wild Bill, has just been imprisoned for eight years for drug dealing. Now out on parole, he returns to his flat in a tower block in East London to find his two sons, Dean and Jimmy, living alone. Their mother abandoned them a while ago, so the respective fifteen and eleven year olds have been fending for themselves.
Bill doesn't want to live with his sons - he'd much rather spend a quiet life in Scotland - but the threats of both the social services and Dean willing to tell all about Bill's past forces the reluctant father to stick around, at least, until the social services go away.
It is during this period that Bill develops a bond with Jimmy, who has picked up a nasty habit of swearing a lot. The two get on like a house on fire, unlike Bill's relationship with Dean, which is the opposite. Still, Bill and Jimmy's relationship make the former realise what he has been missing out on while he has been in prison.
Then, Jimmy gets into trouble with some of Bill's old friends. and Bill must decide whether he wants that quiet life in Scotland, or whether he wants to be around for his sons.
