The singer Fiona Apple has admitted that she was the owner of the drugs found in her possession in a small Texan town yesterday (September 20, 2012). Apple, who has recently released her first studio album in seven years, to great acclaim, was trying to cross the Mexican border when the discovery was made. The singer’s tour bus was searched in Sierra Blanca, when the cannabis was found and she spent last night in jail.

Fiona was released from jail this morning after posting $10,000 bail. The local Sherriff’s office said that her stay had passed “without incident,” BBC News reported. They also confirmed that she had been found with four grams of hash in her possession. The other seven people on the tour bus were allowed to continue travelling, after Apple admitted that the drugs were hers. Rusty Fleming, of the Sheriff’s office stated that the singer had been “respectful and calm” but added that she became “concerned” when she discovered that she would have to remain in jail overnight. Her scheduled concert in Austin tonight has been cancelled.

Fiona Apple’s new album, entitled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do reached number three in the US charts. She’s not the only musician to have been caught out in Sierra Blanca, either, Snoop Dogg, Armie Hammer and Willie Nelson have all been found in possession of drugs there in recent months.
