Flavor Flav pleaded guilty to a battery case on Monday (April 14th).

The Public Enemy rapper wanted to take a plea deal to reduce the sentence over a charge stemming from October 2012 which occurred in Las Vegas.

Flav was accused of threatening and chasing his fiancé's son with a butcher's knife at their home.

The 55 year-old, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., originally faced felony charges of assault and child endangerment with a weapon, which could have resulted in him serving a 12 year prison sentence if found guilty.

But after accepting the plea deal in Clark County District Court, these were downgraded to misdemeanour counts of attempted, and the judge sentenced him to probation and four more months of counselling, according to the Associated Press.

This new agreement means Flav will have a trial but will have to complete a year of probation and attend several domestic violence classes along with the teen he threatened, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

Since the incident occurred, the family have reconciled and have been receiving their own counselling.

Flav called the victim his stepson when in court, and he told the judge: "I love my son and my son loves me, too."

The television personality seemed to be very happy with the punishment he received, and when leaving the courthouse he was heard telling reporters: "I'm standing here in front of the camera.not behind bars."

Flavor Flav was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with hip-hop act Public Enemy. He was also the star of several reality TV shows, including 'Flavor of Love,' 'The Surreal Life' and 'Strange Life.'

If the rapper goes through with the required amount of counselling, his next court date is scheduled for August 18th.
