It’s that time of year again: the annual rumour mill of who is going to be making appearances at Glastonbury, plausible or otherwise. Although the three Pyramid Stage headliners have been revealed – Muse on Friday, Adele on Saturday, and Coldplay rounding things off on Sunday – there are literally several hundred other slots to be filled on the numerous other stages.

The Sunday afternoon ‘legends slot’ has also already been confirmed, with ELO set to entertain the crowds. However, there are always rumours flying around during the festival itself as to who’s going to be making low-key, surprise appearances. The reformed Libertines did so last year, appearing at the Pyramid Stage. So, are there any major names that might do this in 2016?

Glastonbury speculation time! Two bits of news have emerged in the last 24 hours that have changed the minds of opinion-formers as to who will be headlining the 2015 edition of the wildly popular British festival.

First of all, Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood has categorically denied that his band will be headlining the festival. Speaking on Chris Evans’ BBC Radio 2 programme, he said "One of the things that I'd like to clear up is that we're not playing Glastonbury. A lot of folks think that we are, so loud and clear: We love Glastonbury and all the surrounding history of such a lovely festival but we're not playing it." This squelches rumours that have been doing the rounds since May after Christine McVie said “if Michael Eavis provides the wellies I’ll be there”.

Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin Split: Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin announced this week that they were splitting up. Well, instead they described their split as a "conscious uncoupling," a phrase that drew scorn and mockery from the internet. The pair had reportedly been testing their separation for a year and finally decided to go public. In an entry on the Iron Man star's website, the couple explained that being parents to their two children was the priority for them right now.

L'Wren Scott's Will: The last will and testament of the late fashion designer L'Wren Scott has been made public. The former model was found hanged in her Manhattan apartment on Monday 17th March whilst her boyfriend, Mick Jagger, was on tour with the Rolling Stones. Jagger is the only named beneficiary in L'Wren's will, with her adoptive siblings explicitly denied any of her $9 million estate. Scott's sister, Jan Shane, has lashed out at the Jagger's for turning the designer's death into a "media circus" - read about what else she had to say.

Fleetwood Mac have announced that not only has Christine McVie joined the band's line-up but that they are headed on a full North American tour and are working on a new album. The band have confirmed the rumours themselves, leaving the scores of Fleetwood Mac fans both in North American and worldwide excited for more material and live appearances from the British-American rockers.

"I have very high hopes for all of this," guitarist Lindsey Buckingham told USA Today, adding "We've only been in the studio a week, and it's been really beautiful," she said. Buckingham spoke of how Christine had been getting reacquainted with the piano, having not performed professionally for so long.

Arcade Fire are officially headliners at Glastonbury 2014! After much speculation and finger crossing, the Canadian alt-rockers have been confirmed as the first headline act for 2014's outing at Worth Farm in Somerset next June.

The band confirmed their billing themselves, taking to Twitter to reveal a list of European dates due to take place in the same week at the end of June. As well as the stop off at Worthy Farm, AF will also be paying Rock In Roma and Villa Franca Di Verona a visit, as well as headlining a show at Marlay Park in Dublin. The band's own announcement was later followed up by a tweet from festival organiser Emily Eavis, with a statement from the festival's own Twitter page reading: "We're very pleased to announce that Arcade Fire will headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2014 on Friday 27th June."

Fleetwood Mac's reclusive former member Christine McVie has apparently voiced her interest in once again becoming a full-time member of the acclaimed, reformed group. After leaving the band for good in 1998, McVie came out of retirement in September this year to perform 'Don't Stop' with the rest of the band at London's O2 Arena and since then, it seems as though she's acquired the hunger for performing once again.

Speaking with The Guardian last week, the one-time key member of the group revealed her reason for leaving the band, but said that despite her feelings in 1998, she feels ready to face the world again and team up with the band as they continue to tour. The band are currently on hiatus from touring while Christine's ex-husband John McVie undergoes cancer treatment, however when they do return to the road, McVie's comments have suggested that she might be on the road with them.

Fleetwood Mac have cancelled the Australasian part of their upcoming world tour due to the sudden news that bassist John McVie has been diagnosed with cancer, as announced via the band's website.

Rock band 'Fleetwood Mac' is forced to cancel upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand from their worldwide tour after it was announced their bassist, John McVie, was diagnosed with cancer.

The 14 date leg of the two countries is cancelled so McVie can seek medical treatment for the diagnosis of an undisclosed type of cancer.

A statement was posted on the band's official Facebook page, stating, "Fleetwood Mac who has just completed the European leg of their phenomenally successful worldwide tour has announced the cancellation of their upcoming 14 date tour of Australia and New Zealand."

Singer Stevie Nick's has branded R&B star Beyoncé with a big stamp of "great" during an interview with the Telegraph on Sunday. Nicks has been known to speak out harshly against other musicians, but it appears the 65 year-old Fleetwood Mac star can't sing 'Halo' popstar Beyoncé's praises highly enough.

"Beyoncé's great. She's got her alter ego [Sasha Fierce], but Beyoncé the girl, the woman, is very sweet and nice and polite. "She's a good role model. She's not skanky. I'm glad we have her," Stevie said to the newspaper. The stars met in 2001 when Nicks featured in Destiny's Child's 'Bootilicious' video after the song sampled Nicks' own 'Edge of Seventeen' 1981 hit song. It is not known if the two performers have interacted since but it seems that Queen Bey left a lasting impact on the rock singer.

Beyoncé Knowles Carter is never going to be an artist lacking in fans, and even the artists who may have influenced the 'Grown Woman' singer are full of praise for her, namely, Stevie Nicks. The Fleetwood Mac singer was speaking with The Telegraph recently about the latest Fleetwood reunion, when she gave Bey a glowing review for her level head and the way she handles fame and presents herself to her many adoring fans.

Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis has revealed that he has more or less signed the headliners for 2014, teasing that neither act has played the historical music gathering in the past.

In an interview with NME, Eavis explained, "Next year's headliners are more or less in place. They're three bands who haven't played Glastonbury, and that's important." Though the article sent the internet into frenzy with speculation over Eavis's dream headliners Prince and Madonna, the emphasis on the word 'band' appears to suggest the acts will be more conventional four or five-pieces, perhaps in the rock genre.

Of course, both acts travel with accomplished bands - Prince particularly - though Eavis's comments leaves those possibilities in doubt - for this writer at least.

Industrial rockers Nine Inch Nails have teamed up with prolific filmmaker David Lynch for their new music video for 'Came Back Haunted.' After going on hiatus in 2009, the band's return was announced by lead singer Trent Reznor in February 2013, along with a worldwide festival and arena tour.

In typical NIN fashion, the video is about as disturbing as it can be (see also: the universally banned Broken EP videos), showing shaky images of singer/guitarist/wizard of weird Trent Reznor spliced over an image of what looks like a flobberworm. Add in a red/white flashing screen, a particularly evil eye and strange gas mask-wearing spidergirl images, and you have a pretty good accompaniment for the dark subject matter of NIN's songs. "They put something inside of me/The smile is red and its eyes are black/I don't think I'll be coming back," sings Reznor atop trademark fuzzy guitars and synthesised 'oohs.' The song is catchy and the video is strangely hypnotising - a simple idea that gets under your skin, making you look around to see if anyone's lurking behind you.

Fleetwood Mac are the latest in what’s becoming quite a long procession of acts rocking up unannounced and dropping material on us causing a mass outbreak of giddyitis. That’s right the seminal British group may have already announced their live return, but they didn’t say anything about when they were going to be putting new material out. It turns out that they had an idea of when all along – namely yesterday (April 30, 2013).

The group have released an EP of new material onto iTunes without warning, their first new studio recordings since 2003’s Say You Will LP. We knew it was going to come because guitarist Lindsay Buckingham had said last month at a show "One of the things we thought would be a good idea before we hit the road would be to go into the studio and cut some new material. So last year we did that. It's the best stuff we've done in a long time and in a few days we're going to drop an EP of new stuff."

However, the surprise is that it’s dropped now. The EP contains the songs Sad Angel, It Takes Time and Miss Fantasy – all of which were written by Buckingham. It also includes the track Without You, originally written by Stevie Nicks as part of Nicks and Buckingham’s former collaborative project. The group come to the UK in November.

Fleetwood Mac are currently in the early stages of a huge tour and to prepare fans for their arrival on the world stage once more, the band have released an EP of new material, to whet their appetites. Entitled simply Extended Play, the record is available exclusively on iTunes and features three new songs written by Lindsey Buckingham (Sad Angel, It Takes Time and Miss Fantasy) as well as a revisioned track, Without You, which was originally written as part of the Buckingham Nicks project.

Speaking to Rolling Stone prior to the EP’s release, Buckingham explained that – despite many years of writing music together, he still finds that his song-writing partnership with Stevie Nicks shows new developments. “It's still evolving, and that's the beauty of it too. I've known Stevie since high school. We were a couple for many, many years, and we've been a musical couple forever," he explained. "After all this time you would think there was nothing left to discover, nothing left to work out, no new chapters to be written. But that is not the case – there are new chapters to be written.”

Extended Play marks the first release of new material from the band since 2003’s Say You Will LP.

Stevie Nicks appears to have shot down any chance Reese Witherspoon had of playing her in a movie biopic, branding the Oscar winner "too old" to play her. Witherspoon has mentioned as a possible casting choice for a planned movie about Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, but the legendary singer says her days after numbered. "I've already told her she's almost too old," the singer told ET Canada at the Toronto premiere of her new documentary In Your Dreams.

It appears Witherspoon might be of the same opinion, "I love her, but she's like, 'I could play your mother," Nicks recalls. Though the Hollywood actress is just 37, a movie about the Fleetwood Mac singer is likely to focus on her younger years and rise to stardom, which probably would make it a little difficult for Witherspoon to tale the role. Anyway, she's got other things on her plate.

She was snapped on the set of her new movie 'The Good Lie' in Atlanta this week, wearing cowboy boots, a jean skirt and a teal top. The movie is based on the real life story of a young refugee of the Sudanese Civil War who wins a lottery for relocation to the U.S with three other boys. He develops an unlikely friendship  with a brash American woman assigned to help him, though struggles to adjust to the modern world and feels guilty about the brother he left behind in war-torn Sudan.

Mick Fleetwood - founder and drummer for Fleetwood Mac - has split up with his wife. The marriage with Fleetwood's second wife, Lynn Susan Frankel Fleetwood, who bore him two twin daughter, after the two cited irreconcilable difference, according to 'TMZ'. While not yet filing for divorce, it appears that the 17-year-long marriage is close to ending in joint custody for the children.

Fleetwood has so far allowed for his wife to have primary custody of 11-year-old twins Ruby and Tessa, according to legal documents that were filed in Los Angeles. 65-year-old Fleetwood is instead working on the protection of his assets, with the intention of gaining sole control over his musical royalties which came to him before their marriage in 1995.

Albums of Note... Mark Oliver Everett (better known as ‘E’) returns as eels, with new album Wonderful, Glorious. It’s a return to the form that we saw from Eels in the ‘90s. In recent years, Eels albums have been a rather bleak affair, as Everett has had to deal with the death of his parents, his sister and his cousin, all in a relatively short space of time. Wonderful, Glorious sees Eels get some of the fight back – literally, in ‘Kinda Fuzzy,’ in which he snarls “don’t mess with me I’m up for a fight.”“this teeth-grit, eyes ahead attitude is something we've come to expect from Eels, and Wonderful, Glorious is at its best when he's at his growliest… By the end you even sense a form of happiness has fallen upon this most maligned performer…"

Frightened Rabbit have parted ways with Brighton indie label Fat Cat and release their third album Pedestrian Verse on Atlantic Records. With most of the album’s tracks having been written around the time of Scott Hutchinson’s relationship breakup, it can make for a pretty uncomfortable listen at times. With a new producer at the helm the band seem to have developed a more free-flowing musical ideal, even if the emotions contained within are high in intensity.“In summary, 'Pedestrian Verse' can perhaps best be described as the sound of Frightened Rabbit doing what they do best. Just how many more fall outs and break-ups Scott Hutchison can through to continue the cycle remains to be seen, but for now this is up there alongside 'The Midnight Organ Fight' as one of the band's finest collections to date.”

Fleetwood Mac yesterday confirmed dates for the UK leg of their tour to wide spread excitement, despite the high price of tickets, and that excitement is only set to rise with the news that they will be performing new music at the shows.

As the BBC reports, the eponymous drummer of the band, Mick Fleetwood, spoke to BBC Radio 6 about the possibility or recording new music and his long term plans for a potential new studio album. "I hope there's a demand for it," Mick said. With such an interest in their latest news of reforming and returning to tour, how could he question it? He and Lindsey Buckingham, the ex-boyfriend of Stevie Nicks, wrote a few songs described as a 'calling card' for the female singer without whom Fleetwood Mac just wouldn't be the same. 

"We wanted her to know we wanted to make some new music and we had some great songs," he said."But her mother died not too long after and it wasn't the time for her to do any singing, so we dropped it." Just when all was thought lost, she surprised the boys: "[R]ecently she's sung on three of them and recorded one original song of hers, so we're going to mix these songs down and there'll be something that we will play hopefully on stage."

Fleetwood Mac is back and basically everyone is excited. Having announced a tour that will span America as well as the UK there is already plenty of speculation about where they will go and what their sets will be like.

Unlike many other great bands of bygone eras whose discursive value has been delegated to rife cynicism, Fleetwood Mac have managed to avoid such tarnish and aside from a few people who have never been fans, their return is welcomed rather than dreaded. Their iconic album 'Rumours' turns 35 this year, and like the band themselves, it still doesn't seem to be stale.

Gigwise have made a few predictions about what to expect from the UK show. One of their first suggestions, that hits the nail on the head is: "A mix of age ranges in the audience." According to the website " Fleetwood Mac manage to appeal to everyone... from children to grandparents."

35 years after it first became a UK number one, Fleetwood Mac’s classic album Rumours is on the right path to re-entering the Top 10. Featuring classic hits such as ‘Go Your Own Way,’ ‘Don’t Stop’ and ‘You Make Loving Fun,’ the album was recorded during a time of notorious turmoil within the band, as relationships between Steve Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham, as well as Christine McVie and John McVie were strained. The band members carried on in a professional capacity, but personal relationships were at tipping point and bitterness spilled out into the song writing process.

A statement from the Official Charts Company today (January 29, 2013) read “35 years after it first went to Number 1, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours is set to re-enter the Official Albums Chart Top 10 this Sunday. Rumours is not only one of the Top 20 biggest selling albums of all time, it is also the most charted album in British history, spending a staggering 493 weeks on the Official Albums Chart.”

A special 35th anniversary edition of Rumours is released this week, with two bonus discs. One contains live versions of the album tracks (and extras) and a third disc contains a series of demo recordings, and acoustic versions of the Rumours tracks.

Justin Bieber’s keeping the Beliebers appeased whilst they wait for a new studio album, by providing them with his latest offering; an acoustic version of his last album, Believe. There are acoustic versions of the original songs, rearrangements and a couple of new tracks, for added value, too. Just in case you might think this album is something of a cash cow for Bieber. Or possibly a hasty diversion from all of the bad press the young lad’s been getting recently, in light of the drug accusations and the seemingly less-than-pleasant split from Selena Gomez.

A review from Rolling Stone magazine views Believe Acoustic as little more than a “cash-grab” and Washington Post follow suit. the thought of Justin Bieber clutching an acoustic guitar and serenading a young maiden should, on the surface of it, be an appealing thought. Sadly, the sound of the cash register ringing is drowning out the acoustic strum of the album, it seems.

Biffy Clyro have, somewhat ambitiously, decided to opt for a double album release for their sixth studio album. The Scottish alt-rockers recently described the Opposites experience as “like climbing up Mount Biffymanjaro,” in an interview with NME. We’re hoping that this means they see it as a rewarding experience, rather than a death-defying and terribly gruelling one. The two discs are named separately: The Land At The End Of Our Toes and The Sand At The Core Of Our Bones. With 20 songs spread across the two discs, this is a ballsy approach from a band of Biffy Clyro’s stature.

Reviews suggest that – somewhat predictably – the quality control may have been overlooked in favour of adding out the two discs and that they have lost their edge, in favour of a more stadium-friendly sound. That’s not to say that the band are being shunned for their grand gesture, though; Opposites remains a sturdy effort and will go down well with Biffy’s ever-growing fan base.

After initial confusion over whether or not David Bowie’s new single ‘Where Are You Now?’ was even chart eligible, the Thin White Duke has just scored his first Top Ten hit in nearly two decades. Such was the excitement of the star releasing his single unexpectedly on his 66th birthday, that thousands instantly bought the track online, sending it sailing into the Top Ten, were it ended the week in sixth position, Gigwise.com reports.

Initially, the song was considered ineligible for chart entry, as it had been offered free for anyone that pre-ordered a copy of David Bowie’s forthcoming album The Next Day. Only songs that have been paid for may enter the chart but eventually it was decided that the song would be eligible as long as a breakdown of paid-for and non paid-for tracks were provided to the chart company. Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti recently revealed that Bowie would possibly be performing a one-off concert in order to promote The Next Day but told fans not to expect a full tour. There has been a flurry of excitement amongst ticketholders for this year’s Glastonbury festival, with many speculating that Bowie is likely to perform. Other rumours regarding the festival include Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones performing, too.

The number one spot was claimed by Will.i.am and Britney Spears’ track ‘Scream & Shout.’

The BBC’s Sound of 2013 winners have finally been announced. The US band Haim say that they have “found our second home in the UK!” and after extensive press coverage on these shores, since they started making waves at 2012’s SXSW festival in Austin Texas, they have become a hotly-tipped band. It’s no surprise then, that their accessible, ‘80s influenced guitar sound has earned them a place at the top of this year’s poll, beating AlunaGeorge and Angel Haze, who sit behind them in the race.

So who exactly are Haim, then? 21 year old Alana, 23 year old Danielle and 26 year-old Este are three sisters, making music that sounds as though it’s inspired as much by Fleetwood Mac as it is by their own self-confessed influences of TLC and Destiny’s Child. These are a girl group in a more traditional sense though; a guitar band with pop sensibilities; credibility lends weight to their songwriting and their extrovert personalities have certainly made recent interviews in the UK press an entertaining read.

One of the first magazines to champion Haim were NME. The publication’s new music editor Matt Wilkinson said “After years of boring indie bands who seem to almost be embarrassed to be featured on mainstream radio or in magazines like NME, Haim are a shining light. Not only do they write brilliant songs, but they also want to be a really big deal… the fact they are now getting wider recognition is no real surprise - they have a knack for writing amazingly catchy singles, they're a killer live band and they talk-the-talk miles better than most other new bands. It's a rare and exciting combination.”

This week Fleetwood Mac unveiled their plans for a 2013 North American tour, which has been hailed by some as the best band reunion... ever. It's only three years since they were touring together, so if we can consider it a 'reunion' it hasn't had the time for it to transcend, in its ancticipation, into 'best ever' territory, but it surely is exciting! 

Both Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have spoken to Rolling Stone about the coming year. "We actually have two new Fleetwood Mac songs that I cut with Lindsey two weeks ago we might play," says Nicks. "I had a really good time working with him for four days at his house. I got to hang out with his family and his kids, his grown up kids, and really connect with him again. We're pretty proud of what we have done, and we're looking at it through the eyes of wisdom now, instead of through the eyes of jealousy and resentment and anger."

There are iconic Fleetwood songs that the band really have to play, but the fun comes in deciding what to play the rest of the time. Lindsey Buckingham says: "When you've gone through all your must-do's, that's 75% of your potential setlist. I think with the other 25%, there are areas of our catalog that are more under-explored. Maybe we'll play more songs from Tusk. I'd also like to see an extended middle portion of the show that's just me and Stevie. This is just me talking from the top of my head. For now, I have no particular vision of what this tour is going to be."

Fleetwood Mac have announced their tour dates for US and Canada in 2013 and the last date of the tour is in Detroit on June 12… just a few weeks before the UK’s iconic Glastonbury festival, which takes place on June 21 – 23. Can you see where we’re headed with this train of thought? Well, it looks like we’re not the only ones starting to think that Stevie Nicks and co. would make a brilliant addition to next year’s line-up, as the bookies, William Hill, have slashed the odds of Fleetwood Mac headlining the festival’s Pyramid Stage on the Sunday to 6/1, making them second favourites.

Currently, The Rolling Stones are favourites to be announced as the festival closers though frankly we’d like to know who’s giving William Hill their inside info because they currently have The Smiths in third position and everybody knows that Morrissey and Marr will never agree to let bygones be bygones and reform in time for Glastonbury 2013. Or ever. Right…? Right? Or is there something that someone’s not telling us?

The line-up for Glastonbury 2013 hasn’t yet been announced, even though tickets for the event have already sold out – such is the pulling power of what is widely considered to be the best festival on the planet. In 22nd place, on William Hill’s list is the Korean rapper, Psy at 200/1. We’re not convinced that Psy’s going to produce another hit on the same scale as ‘Gangnam Style’; file that one under ‘wasted bet.’

Next year’s Fleetwood Mac tour is NOT a farewell tour, insists singer Stevie Nicks. The band may not have released any new material in a decade (since last album Say You Will) but they are heading out on the road in April 2013, with a 34-city tour around the US and Canada. The tour winds up in Detroit on June 12 and the eagle-eyed amongst you may already have noted that that is just a few weeks before the UK’s infamous Glastonbury Festival. There’s a very real chance that Fleetwood Mac could be announced as one of the bands to play Glastonbury 2013.

“It's never going to be a final tour until we drop dead. There's no reason for this to end as long as everyone is in good shape and takes care of themselves,” Stevie Nicks told Reuters. The tour will coincide with the 35th anniversary of their classic album Rumours. It was the album that landed the band with four hit singles and global sales of over 40 million, though its creation was marred by emotional tensions within the band.

Nicks insists that there is still plenty of life in Fleetwood Mac and revealed that she and Lindsay Buckingham had been writing new material again recently. “I don't want a Fleetwood Mac tour every year or year and a half. That's why people get so excited. ... All of a sudden the world is on edge and that's what gets you out there... If you never stop, you don't lose your energy.”

Fleetwood Mac are one of the best loved bands the world over, with their 1978 album Rumours still managing to find its way on the iPods of 15 year olds and 50 year olds alike. They have just released details of a 2013 tour which will visit 34 cities. 

"In my opinion," Stevie Nicks, vocalist from the band, says to the Huffington Post, "Fleetwood Mac should be off the road for three years because then when we come together it's an event because you didn't just see us last year or just see us the year before." Stevie was the one to hold the band back last year when they wanted to tour again, as she wanted to focus on her solo album 'In Your Dreams' for another year, and given the buzz surrounding next year's tour, it was the right decision to make. 

The band have seen their fair of success and drama during their 40 year success story, including a wide ranging line up as well as bankruptcy scares, rehab and, on a high note, the 1993 decision by Bill Clinton to use their song 'Don't Stop' as his election song. Stevie Nicks clearly has a great amount of love and respect for the band that made her famous, largely because she likes the best of both worlds. In her interview with Huffington Post, she preached advice to current solo stars to get themselves a rock band- notably, Rihanna. "She could front a really great rock-n-roll band and she should." She said, "she would probably be happier had she actually done something like that because then she could have had Rihanna with a great band. And then she could have been a rock star and she could have gone to her solo Rihanna and been a pop star. She could have done both like I do."
