Florence + The Machine share their third single in less than three weeks with 'My Love' and at the same time announce details of their forthcoming fifth album - 'Dance Fever'. Florence premiered the new track on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show as Greg James gave the single it's first spin just as the Autumn de Wilde video was about to go live.
Talking about both the new single, and the new album, a very shy Florence said that she had conceived her latest track as a "sad little poem" that she had originally written in her kitchen during the CoVID pandemic. The song was given a radical makeover when she shared it with co-producers Jack Antonoff and Glass Animals‘ Dave Bayley. It was Bayley who suggested making the song into a dance track, and that's most definitely how it's turned out. When talking to Greg James on BBC Radio 1 she said - "Sometimes the biggest dance songs, I think, have a really sad core to them".
'My Love', the biggest, boldest and most anthemic of Florence + The Machine's recent releases, follows on from their first single of the year - 'King' and it's swift follow-up - 'Heaven Is Here'. All three have been visually interpreted by renowned director Autumn de Wilde, and all three form part of the new album which Florence describes as being - "a fairytale in 14 songs".
Florence + The Machine will release 'Dance Fever', their first album in nearly four years, on May 13th via Universal Music. The 14 track album is their full length follow-up to 2018's 'High As Hope' and comes 13 years after they shared their stunning debut album - 'Lungs'.
The video to accompany 'My Love' takes a lot of references from Baz Luhrmann's 'Great Gatsby' and sees Florence in her element as she sings and dances in the Art Deco splendour of a 1920's styled club. Wearing a rose gold dress to accentuate her flaming red locks, Florence looks every bit the 20's starlet. A fairytale come true maybe?
