Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl has hinted that there might be a second season of ‘Sonic Highways’. Ahead of the release of their recent album of the same name, the group recorded an eight part series exploring the musical characteristics of US cities that have made a significant contribution to American rock and pop.

Dave Grohl dropped a hint to Jon Stewart on 'The Daily Show' that there might be a second 'Sonic Highways'

Speaking on ‘The Daily Show’ on Thursday night, Grohl said “there might be a season 2”, in response to Jon Stewart’s point that there were more than eight cities to visit. The HBO series was very well-received, not only reminding many of the rich musical history of America but putting some fresh perspective on the Foo Fighters themselves.

The original eight episodes followed the Foos as they recorded their new album, visiting different American cities to explore their musical heritage and seek inspiration for their creative process. The series took in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Seattle and Washington D.C.

If there was to be another series, it would presumably have to be structured differently and more in depth, or it would have to wait until the Foos record another album and decide to do it in the same way.

In other recent Foos news, a mammoth 29-date tour of North America was recently announced, spanning July to October 2015. That huge tour will be preceded by six shows in Britain and Ireland, including a double-header at London’s Wembley Stadium.

As for their new album, Sonic Highways was as warmly received as their previous seven records. Though it sold a huge 190,000 copies in its first week in the States, Grohl and co. nevertheless had to settle for Number 2 in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, as it was unable to dislodge the musical bulldozer that is Taylor Swift’s 1989.
