Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand have snubbed British royal Prince WILLIAM's request for a royal command performance.

The band were to set to be guests of honour at Queen Elizabeth II's Christmas Reception at Buckingham Palace this Tuesday (07DEC04) - an event paying tribute to those who have made a special contribution to British life this year (04).

Despite the TAKE ME OUT rockers being initially thrilled to get the invitation, they have now decided they are too busy to attend - and will instead be preparing for a concert in New Mexico.

A band spokesperson says, "They did RSVP (reply) so the Palace are aware that they are not going to be turning up.

"They have tour commitments in the States at the moment and are unable to get back from over there."

According to a royal source, the 22-year-old future king is upset the group could not make his grandmother's bash: "Prince William is naturally disappointed they won't be there."
