Gal Gadot has given us our first look at her as Wonder Woman, as shooting begins on the long-awaited superhero movie. Wonder Woman will be the first time the comic book character has been brought to the big screen, with the film set for release on June 23, 2017.

The picture, shared on Gadot’s instagram, showed the actress wearing a hooded cloak and showcasing her famous gold cuff bracelets and headpiece. Gadot captioned the image ‘Almost 75 years in the making...#WonderWoman is underway’.

The character first made its comic book debut in DC's All-Star Comics #8 in December 1941. Although the character was famously played by Lynda Carter on the small screen, she is yet to have her own feature film.

But before her stand-alone movie is released, Gadot will first appear as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. It is due for release on March 25, 2016.

Announcing that production had officially began, studio Warner Bros. also released more details about who else stars in the film. Most notably, Chris Pine will play Wonder Woman's love interest, Captain Steve Trevor.

Also announced as cast are Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Ewan Bremner Lena Anaya, Saïd Taghmaoui and Lucy Davis in undisclosed roles. The film will be directed by Patty Jenkins, who will be the first woman to direct a comic book superhero film.
