Garth Brooks has caused quite the storm with fans after he confessed that he lip-synced during his performance at the 2017 CMA Awards last week. Even his fellow country stars are angry about his half-baked routine, especially after he won Entertainer of the Year.Garth Brooks at the CMA Awards

Suspicions that the 55-year-old wasn't giving a live show arose immediately when the performance was broadcast on Wednesday (November 8th 2017), and while he was at least honest about miming during his song 'Ask Me How I Know', nobody was happy about it - especially Miranda Lambert's partner Anderson East.

'I keep a lot of my opinions to myself and respect anyone making music but as a person who tries to put on the best and most honest show I can night after night... this truly offends me', he wrote on Twitter. 'I was told country music is three chords and the truth.'

Even Miranda apparently stepped in to defend Anderson's point, though it seems her comment has been deleted since. 'High five on this babe', she reportedly said. 'If you can't sing then don't. It's better to be honest than to pretend. I think it's bulls***. My favorite performances were live live. The truth.'

Garth's excuse was that as he was in the middle of a touring schedule consisting of 12 shows in 10 days, his voice was not good enough to perform live on the night.

'We did our rehearsal today and we did a game time call on whether we did sing the track or lip sync it and I decided to lip sync it because the voice is just not there and you want to represent country music the best you can', he told E! Online.

Indeed, many fans have expressed sympathy for the singer, given the high standards expected of him even after a 23 year career.
