Gary Oldman shudders every time he recalls a swimming scene in new movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy - because he had to shoot it in a freezing London lake.
The Dark Knight star had to wade into Hampstead Pond three times for director Tomas Alfredson and he admits the final take was one of the most difficult he has ever had to shoot.
Oldman explains, "It is a delightful place to swim in the summer but I don't recommend it at the end of October. It was deathly, deathly cold. So much so you were in the water in less than a minute and you could really feel that your muscles were starting to cramp. There was even a nurse on set.
"It was so cold and then you got out and go in for take two and then you had to warm up to position the camera and then go in for take three which was like walking to the gallows! But I thought I can't whine out."
