Gary Oldman will make a welcome return to directing with biopic 'Flying Horse' about photographer Eadweard Muybridge, and is courting Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes for the male leads.
Gary Oldman is returning to the director's chair with 'Flying Horse'.
The British actor is planning to helm his first feature film since 1997, a biopic about pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge, and is allegedly considering Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes for lead roles.
According to The Wrap, the film is set to focus on Muybridge's tumultuous personal life and not his innovative camera skills, which facilitated the advent of motion picture filmmaking.
The photographer famously murdered his love rival, theatre critic Major Harry Larkyns, when he discovered his own child might have been fathered by Larkyns, who was having an affair with his wife Flora.
A fan also recounted on her Tumblr page, FYeah Gary Oldman, that she had discussed his new project with the 'Harry Potter' actor during a chance encounter, during which he admitted he had already cast Fiennes as Muybridge.
She wrote: ''We talked a little about ... a screenplay he is working on about Eadweard Muybridge and that Ralph Fiennes has signed on the play him. I told him that Ralph was like my second favorite actor after him, and he jokingly said that next the time he came by he'd bring Ralph with him. (sic)''
It is being reported 'Star Trek Into Darkness' actor Benedict - who co-starred with Oldman in thriller 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy' - is being courted to play the Major.
Oldman has already written the script and hopes to begin production early next year. He is also expected to take on the small role of Dennis Spencer, the district attorney that prosecuted Muybridge, who was eventually acquitted of the crime due to ''justifiable homicide''.
The 55-year-old actor previously stepped behind the camera to helm the 1997 drama 'Nil by Mouth'.
