Actor Gary Oldman is sad to hear New York's fabled Chelsea Hotel is closing, even though his experiences there were far from pleasant.
The Dark Knight star stayed there briefly while researching the role of Sid Vicious for the 1986 biopic Sid And Nancy - but the cockroaches in his room drove him out.
He explains, "They (producers) put me up there when we did Sid And Nancy, because they wanted me to absorb the character and Sid and Nancy lived in the hotel.
"I stayed there one night, and when I turned on the light, there were cockroaches crawling over the phone. I immediately checked out. I know the history of the artists and the painters who stayed there and I went there a couple of times to shoot (film) Romeo's Bleeding. Occasionally, over the years, I have ended up there.
"It is a shame it is closing; it's got incredible history. But my experience there, as a guest, is not a memorable one."
