English actress Gemma Arterton is set to take on the lead role in a West End musical adaptation of the 2010 film Made In Dagenham.

The Quantum of Solace star will portray Rita O'Grady, a part originally played by Blue Jasmine's Sally Hawkins, in the hit film.

The show will centre on two women fighting for equal rights at a Ford car factory in Essex in 1968.

Arterton says, "It's an important story that I'm passionate about telling, and we intend to tell it with wit, warmth and, of course, a lot of singing and dancing in this production."

Hawkins tells the Bbc, "I'm very proud of the film and I can't wait to see it (onstage). If they need me, I'm here."

Made in Dagenham, which will be directed by Rupert Goold, will also star Adrian Der Gregorian. It is scheduled to hit the stage in October (14.)
