Gemma Arterton claims she's barely worked because she's "too picky" with roles she takes on.
Gemma Arterton barely works because she is “too picky”.
The 38-year-old actress admitted she made some wrong choices in the early days of her career after ignoring her intuition, but now she’ll only pursue projects she knows are “right”.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I feel as though I made choices when I was younger that weren’t right for me, that I knew intuitively weren’t right for me, but I did those things because that’s what you do.”
Asked if she listens to herself now, she said: “Yes. To the point where I never work any more because I’m just too picky.
“But when I know that something is right for me, I’ll go for it.”
Meanwhile, Gemma – who is married to fellow actor Rory Keenan –was left upset when she returned to work after giving birth to her son because she looks so different in character in 1960s comedy drama ‘Funny Women’ that her little boy didn’t recognise her.
She said: “It was my first job and he was 10 months old. I dye my hair blonde in this season and I brought my family up to Liverpool, where we shoot the show.
“I know it sounds ridiculous but I was convinced he didn’t recognise me. He’d come on set and see me for an hour and I’d be dressed up as Sophie.
“I just don’t look like myself when I’m playing Sophie, with the costumes and the hair and make-up, and I was convinced he didn’t know I was his mum. I found it quite hard…
“It was hard not to be with him [during filming] but it was OK. He’s forgiven me – he recognises me now.”
