Gemma Arterton has decided to ''shun'' big movies.

The 27-year-old actress has starred in numerous blockbuster films, such as 'Clash of the Titans' and James Bond flick 'Quantum of Solace', but recently made the choice to turn down commercial features as she finds herself feeling ''uneasy'' taking part in them.

Speaking in an interview with Metro newspaper, Gemma explained: ''I've decided to shun the 'big' side for a bit. Over Christmas, I turned down this huge, very commercial film - I can't tell you which but it's one of those feel-good family films you know is going to be a massive smash but I felt this unease about doing it.

''I think I'm ... I'm ... it's delicate in that it's this bizarre line where you have to be a bit of a 'name' to get the financing for the smaller films but if you don't have the respect and credentials as an actor, you probably won't get asked to do the really covetable roles.''

Instead, Gemma wants to be involved in more ''unusual'' projects and realises she must stand her ground in order to prove she doesn't need mainstream roles to make her a successful actress.

She continued: ''I want to work with good directors and so really unusual things. You can't sit on the fence in this job. You have to be strong.''

Gemma can next be seen in action flick 'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters' alongside Jeremy Renner, out in cinemas on February 27.
