Up and coming UK songstress Gemma Ray has unveiled the video for her brand new track 'Rescue Me' from the forthcoming album Island Fire. May has gone all out on her latest and most ambitious album that features everything from lavish orchestral backdrops to brooding psychedelic trips. 'Runaway' is a further flexing of May's musical ambition as she goes for a more classic pop sound. With luscious harmonies and a simple guitar and drum beat as the song's back bone, May clearly belongs to a bygone era - as if the video for 'Rescue Me' wasn't enough of an indication.
The cut and paste effect used in the video makes it seem like the video for Pulp's 'Common People,' had it been done by a Monty Python-era Terry Gillian. You can see the clear influence of artist who thrived in the sixties and seventies rather than the uninspired lot who can be heard all over the airwaves nowadays.
Having already lit up more than one stage at Austin's South By Southwest Festival as well as performing a number of shows across the globe already, the singer will perform a string of shows across the UK in the upcoming weeks - both headlining acts and support slots with Ane Brun and others.
Tour dates:
April 28th - London, Shepherds Bush Empire (with Ane Brun)
May 3rd - Glasgow, Captain's Rest
May 4th - Belfast, Black Box Theatre (with Kitty, Daisy and Lewis)
May 30th - London, Paper Dress Vintage (FREE SHOW, stage time 9pm)
