George Clooney has revealed that he hasn't had a drink since New Year's Eve, telling the Hollywood Reporter he often drinks too much. The Hollywood star, who is the joint-favorite to win Best Actor at the Oscars later this month, also opened up about his insomnia.
Despite featuring prominently in most of this year's awards ceremonies, Clooney says he has so-far stayed away from the wine and champagne, saying, "I drink at times too much.I do enjoy drinking, and there have been times in my life when it's crossed the line from being fun to having to drink late at night for absolutely no reason. So what I do is, I stop. I haven't had a drink since New Year's Eve". The Descendants star, who is going-strong with his new-girlfriend Stacy Keibler, says he is in bed by 10pm most days, but still wakes up and flicks through the television channels almost every night, saying, "Turning off the television causes me to think, and once I start that vision roaring, I have a very tough time getting to sleep.I'm able to numb out.Without question, I wake every night five times". For months, Clooney has been the runaway favorite with the bookmakers to win Best Actor at the Oscars - for his portrayal of land baron Matt King in The Descendants - but those odds have since drifted and he now finds himself in a two-horse race with The Artist star Jean Dujardin. The French actor took home the award at the recent Baftas, and Clooney himself has suggested Dujardin is "probably" the likely victor. Elsewhere, George's close friend Brad Pitt is also nominated for his turn as Oakland A's coach Billy Beane, in Moneyball.
So far, Clooney's only film release in 2012 will see the actor play a lone survivor of a space mission in the sci-fi thriller Gravity. The movie, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, also stars Oscar-winner SANDRA BULLOCK.
