George Michael has heaped praise on the Spice Girls for changing the music scene by encouraging more British females to break into the industry.
Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell and Melanie Chisholm rose to fame in the 1990s with their pop hits and "Girl Power" mantra.
And Michael insists the group has influenced today's music by inspiring young girls, such as British singers Adele and Jessie J, to become musicians.
He tells radio show In:Demand, "I know people don't take them seriously, but I think the Spice Girls changed the entire landscape and British music massively under-exploited female talent. These girls now that are out there are absolutely giving the Americans a run for their money, they come from that generation that ran around the playgrounds going 'girl power', and I think that's fantastic."
