George W Bush, the former President of the United States of America, has highlighted a remark made by the rapper Kanye West as the lowest point of his time in office. Mr Bush releases his much-anticipated memoir 'Decision Points' today (November 9th 2010), and in the book he speaks of the time when West called him a racist during a televised concert, reports the UK's Daily Telegraph.
During a concert in 2005 to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, 33-year-old West appeared in a live broadcast alongside the actor Mike Myers. Myers read from the autocue but the controversial rapper said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people", before the producer cut off the microphone. Writing in his memoir, Mr Bush says, "I faced a lot of criticism as President", but admits that Kanye's outburst was the worst moment of his tenure, adding, "the suggestion that I was racist because of the response to Katrina represented an all-time low".
West recently reacted to Bush's comments, saying that he regrets what he said and adding, "With him, it was a lack of compassion with him not rushing, you know, him not taking the time to rush down to New Orleans".
