It's a big few weeks for movies, but a little surfer flick has floated in under the radar; we've taken a look at some Chasing Maverick reviews, and promise to ride the waves of surfing puns for a long as we can stay on our board.

Refusing to wax up and hit the waves is Alonso Duralde, who gives the film a wholly negative review. He writes, "With a storyline as by-the-numbers as a square dance, the movie's one surprise comes with the closing credits -- namely, that this trite "inspirational" movie is the product of two world-class filmmakers, Curtis Hanson and Michael Apted." And this review is endemic amongst the multiple negative pieces out there. Kathleen Murphy sounds like she wants to bail: "...you see what 'Chasing Mavericks' missed entirely: the transfiguring energy that animated this remarkable child of the sea." And Rafer Guzman of Newsday can't wait to get the wetsuit off, writing: "Chasing Mavericks" invents minor conflicts but avoids major problems, coming off less like a biographical drama than a visit from a guest lecturer during Sunday school."

Overall, Chasing Mavericks, which gains little from the rugged good looks of Gerard Butler, who plays Frosty Hesson, got a low average score of 42% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. And we've run out of surfing metaphors because we don't really know anything about it. Bye.
