Gigi Hadid was introducing the American Music Awards with Jay Pharaoh over the weekend and decided to take heed of the latter's talent at impressions by performing a little impression of her own. Needless to say, not everyone approved of her making fun of this person, and some even branded her 'racist'.

Gigi HadidGigi Hadid does her best Melania Trump impression

While she might have slayed in a glittering asymmetrical scarlet gown by Atelier Versace last night (November 20th 2016), her impression of Melania Trump left a bad taste in some people's mouths. With a pronounced duck pout and a frankly terrible European accent, she mocked the next First Lady of the United States by referencing her Republican National Convention speech.

'I love my husband President Barack Obama and our children Sasha and Mali', said Gigi, mimicking Melania and reflecting the scandal that hit Trump earlier this year when she clearly repeated almost word for word Michelle Obama's speech from the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

A lot of people hit out at Gigi for the gag, defending the First Lady and accusing the model of bullying her for her Slovenian accent. However, co-host Jay Pharaoh praised the impression, saying that it was 'spot on' - though he would have been unlikely to say anything else, of course.

Pharaoh, meanwhile, did his best imitation of Donald Trump, which was significantly funnier and more accurate. 'Listen, I love Bruno Mars. I don't know what colour he is so I can't deport him', said Pharaoh, to much laughter. 'Everyone, everyone, look, look, he looks like Mowgli from 'The Jungle Book' he does. Alright, listen everyone, I love 'Uptown Funk'. It was so totally about me, it was originally called 'Uptown Trump'. I'm gonna funk this country up bigly.'

The comedian also did an impression of Jay-Z and performed his own version of the 'Beans, greens, potatoes' viral meme.
