Supermodel Gisele Bündchen stole the show during the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympics in Brazil on Friday, when she walked down the world’s biggest runway. While the world watched at home, Gisele’s husband, New England Patriots Star Tom Brady, was also forced to miss seeing the spectacle live, thanks to his busy NFL training schedule.

Fans had wondered why Brady wasn't in Rio supporting his wife and the reason is that he just couldn't get the time off work. Speaking to People a few weeks prior to the Rio Games, Brady had warned that he might have to miss the big night.

"For me, [the Olympics] are right in the middle of training camp so I need to talk my coach out of a couple days of practice," he said. "I haven't asked them so, we'll see!" The couple have been married since 2009 and have two children together, son Benjamin and daughter Vivian.

For Gisele, taking part in the ceremony was very special, as the model has a strong connection to her home country of Brazil "She loves the country," Brady said. "She has never forgotten where she's come from. She's such a great role model.

“Obviously she's my wife, so I'm biased, but I think she is someone that represents her country. I think she stayed really true to her roots. If you came to our house, you'd think we'd been living in Brazil. Everyone around speaks Portuguese. Which I wish I'd learned more at this point."
