Review of Gliss' album Devotion Implosion

Gliss Devotion Implosion Album

Currently on a huge tour of North America where the album has already been released, 'Devotion Implosion' is set for a UK release in October and is the second album from the alt-rockers who recently played a host of showcase gigs around London.

Recent lead single 'Morning Light' is the opening track to the record, a seductive number which is sonically beautiful, and followed up well in the shape of '29 Acts Of Love' which ups the tempo and sweeps you along relentlessly. 'Beauty' is aptly titled and features a gorgeous melody with Martin Klingman sounding more dreamy than usual, while 'Sad Eyes' has an electrifying retro stomp that any music lover should appreciate. As with any experimental musicians there are times where things don't quite click, 'Sleep' is a bluesy number certainly not for the mainstream and 'The Patrol' doesn't take off despite a fantastically menacing riff, but on the whole 'Devotion Implosion' proves to be a very rewarding listen. This is no more obvious than on the organ-driven marathon that is 'Sister Sister', a six minute marathon that might at first seem difficult to access but is actually a gorgeous soundscape that rewards those with patience - an analogy of the band within a song if there ever was one.
